Way up there
Not that any of us needed another reason to want Texas to lose but I'm getting an erie feeling that if they are bowl eligible, we'll get bumped down a bowl game in favor of the Longhorns.

I could see them turning down a bowl bid this year. Maybe not, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

Yes, root against Texas and Texas Tech. The have games against OU, Weber State and Houston. If they go 1-2 in that stretch would we get the nod over them in bowl selection due to the tie-breaker?

There is no "tie-breaker" for bowls. Only thing that matters is who the bowl officials think will make them more money.

There is absolutely no way in hell that ISU would ever get picked over Texas if both are bowl eligible.

I think this is a serious possibility. Remember the rhetoric out of Austin after we beat them? A loss to ISU is totally foreign to them as is a low tier bowl. Would UT fans really show up to an aberration?

Do UT fans show up to see a 6-6 UT team play in their bowl? I would have my doubts as a bowl host.

Depends on the bowl. If it is the bowl in Houston or Dallas, then I highly doubt we would get picked over TT.

I'm guessing that with the number of alumni that texas has, they would still be able to sell more seats than us, even if it is a down year for them.

A lot of the UT fans I work with have been saying that UT shouldn't accept a bowl bid even if they get one this year, and even if UT accepted, they wouldn't attend it. It may have just been their frustration talking, though.

A lot of these people don't remember what Texas football was like before Mack Brown, and they aren't handling it well.

Why on earth would you have your doubts? There is no way the Dallas Football Classic or the Texas Bowl will pick any other Big 12 team if they have the ability to pick Texas.

Because there is a real chance they would decline if they had a 6-6 record. I don't think more UT fans would show up than ISU fans would to see a 6-6 team play.

Ticket sales are only a small part of it.

Advertising incomes from television and corporate sponsors come into play. Best to get it through your heads that Texas will be selected before ISU if it's a possibility.

This is a reality of the bowl system, and also a reason I hate how it's structured. If anything, ISU fans ought to be rooting FOR UT and Tech, having beat each head-to-head (assuming ISU would finish in a dead-heat with those teams in conference standings, of course).

Supposedly those things come into play with BCS rankings, but it's seemingly zero factor in the rest of the bids, which are based on conference finish. Unless they aren't, and the bowl makes choices based on intangibles.

Again, I know that's reality. But either have a structure, or don't.

I would tend to disagree with everything you said, but that's just me.
