So lets say in two years our defensive line is Coe, Pompey, Aka, and David Irving. I think that would be one of the better groups we have ever had.

maybe. irving is the only one who has any collegiate experience and not very much of it... i see what you mean though, there is some serious potential here. i thinks collin bevins could be pretty good too

Coe has a ton of potential. If he realizes that potential he could be a star. I'm just not sure he has the work ethic/attitude to be successful at this level. Probably a good risk to take though.

The talk about Coe coming out of high school was he could be an All American at running back or linebacker. Their were concerns about his attitude and eligibility though, hence the reason he was only a 4 star, but had offers from virtually every school in the nation. Wherever he ends up, that school is getting some serious talent. Whether or not that will mean anything will depend on Coe himself. The kid is a high risk, high reward.

I believe he chose Iowa because they were one of the only schools to offer him at RB. He then didn't make grades, ballooned about 40 lbs and unhappily joined the DL. He could be a beast there, however. The kid is big and strong.

I thought the same thing-- WOW! Would Coe be the most highly offered kid out of HS for any player that we have signed?

I'm guessing there are reasons he went from that offer list out of high school to offers from South Florida and us only 2 years later. Some times guys just need to mature/develop physically, mentally, etc. and JC is a good place to do that. But there are a lot of other reasons guys go to JC and most are not good. I know Kansas State has a good track record with JC's. But I hate that we are getting JC's with few, if any, other offers at this point in the game. Danny Mac resorted to this to fill out poor recruting classes if I recall correctly?

I know, sky is not falling. Just concerned with our class.

Coe was a very good get for Iowa, all Iowa fans were extremely excited to get him. Then he didn't make grades, and put on some weight. At that point and during his first year, Iowa said they wanted him to still come back, but wanted him to play Dline. He made some public remarks about his dislike about Iowa coaches wanting him to play Dline. Then it was being said that Iowa pulled his offer and was looking elsewhere. He quickly apologized on twitter saying he was happy and excited to play the Dline, but it appeared the Iowa coaches had enough at that point. Iowa had in fact pulled their offer, but it doesn't mean he couldn't be a good get for you guys. He needs to get away from the social network and worry about football first and foremost.

This guy definitely has a red flag, but at the same time Rhoads knows his history. It isn't like the SEC and we take anyone that can play. I assume Rhoads has talked with him

Also- we had two great JuCo's last year in the Blinn pair, except there names are drawing a blank right now. They both ended up going with Malzahn to Arky St. They were both highly touted JuCo's and would have had a shot to play right away.

Good point, and this probably could apply to a number of kids these days.. less social network and more focus on the task at hand.

The perception is that he is holding them in a "gangster" style pose by probably just about everyone but you I guess. If you think D1 coaches are just going to laugh off a picture like this as a gun enthusiast properly holding a couple of target pistols then you are missing quite a lot. I own alot of guns so don't get all gun guy on me.

I know this is 5 pages later, just got around to coming back to this thread. And I won't go gun guy on you.

I'm going to tread carefully here so this doesn't get sent to the cave. BUT. Look at the way the kid is dressed. He has socks coming half way up his legs. He's tucked in his T-Shirt. His shorts are actually around his waste and belted tightly in place. What exactly is gangsta about anything here? Outside of the fact he's holding 2 guns (safely) and is posing for a picture and that gangsters also carry handguns I don't see it. My suspicion if it was Jeff Woody in the same pose and venue he'd look 'farm boy'.

Mods please delete if you see this going badly, and if so sorry about that. I'm just trying to point out that people criticizing a recruit for this have no actual reason to worry.

You are missing the point.

This kid had to go juco because he didn't have the grades to get into school. He is now trying to get recruited again and this time only has 2 years to play at his new school. Do you think posting a picture of yourself holding two pistols is a good way of getting college coaches to say "hey, that kid looks responsible, let's go after him". It's just not a smart decision.

Also, if you think any recruit holding guns like that will be seen as "farm boy", you are crazy. It would be viewed as a poor decision no matter what. There are plenty of jobs out there that would not view this as a positive thing. A 20 yr old kid trying to get a full ride is probably one of them.

We have 2 JC commits. Out of a class of 23-25. TWO.

Glad you're concerned. Email Pollard.

The kid seems to have a lot of potential. There are red flags all over the place. Roll the dice and hope for the best? Play it safe and avoid potential future problems? What do you do?
