Too young. His portrayal of Morrison was brilliant. And I'll always remember him for Real Genius, just a classic.

Real Genius is one of my all time favorite movies. I also loved fantasy when I was a kid so I have a soft spot for Madmartigan. But he has a lot of great roles through the 80s and 90s.

Real Genius was one of the most underrated movies of the 80s IMO. I have two of the tshirts Kilmer's character wears in that movie. And Michelle Meyrink? And Deborah Foreman? And the final popcorn scene with Tears for Fears and 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'?

So f*cking good.

I was always partial to Top Secret!

RIP Nick Rivers - Skeet surfing with the angels
It's funny he started out with slapstick. I have vague memories of watching it when I was young but I'd be lying if I said it's anything I remember very well.

Well worth revisiting. If you like Airplane, Hot Shots, or Naked Gun style movies, it belongs in the same pantheon

Should have got an Oscar for his Doc Holliday. Started as Nick Rivers in the underrated comedy, Top Secret! Skeet surfin', lol
My favorite underrated movie he was lead: Thunderheart - that one sticks with me for some reason.
This might be one of the top five pieces of cinema ever filmed:

His last film was Top Gun: Maverick.

It's not often an actor has a chance to eulogize their most famous character in their last film in a way that works on a meta/thematic level as eulogizing themselves. Admiral Kazansky and his scene and funeral gave way more emotional weight to a movie about flying badass fighter jets ever had the right to have.

The only other one I can think of in a similar vein was John Wayne in The Shootist.

RIP Iceman
