With all due respect to you, and I do mean that, how in the world can you believe it's not time for him to go?

This team was less talented than the d-1aa team that throttled them on Saturday. Paul just can't recruit the type of players it takes to compete in d-1a, let alone the big 12.

That is a fair point. And to be truthful, I don't have a good response. Perhaps I just feel bad for him, since he comes across as a good guy who at least appears passionate about Iowa State. But in the end, the program and University is where my loyalty lies, and if this season plays out like I expect, by the end I won't have any reasons left (logical or otherwise) to retain him.

Thanks for your honesty.

It was never a good idea. Where was he going to go? And if he did, big deal.

Anyway... we are stuck with the guy. I thought that before, but these numbers above only reinforce my opinion that there is nothing JP can do to Rhoads at this point except hang on and hope something changes.

JP put himself in this position, now he has to live with it. As do all of us.

Problem is, I think Rhoads is too stubborn to change anything either, as far as scheme goes. He loves himself a horizontal "cute" finesse offense.
JP could be gone tomorrow. It's us, folks.

Last year set a school record. This year is the second highest total in school history. Pretty remarkable, really.

I'm guessing we've also got more financial obligations than any other time in school history (that construction site directly south of the stadium will serve as a reminder all season long). A 5-7% dip in season tickets sold, even if it's from a landmark high, is nothing to sneeze at.

Mess was the scapegoat last year, could be Wally this year.

It's unlikely Wally will be the scapegoat, considering that's Rhoads's side of the ball and Wally has proven in the past he can have a good defense with decent talent. There are no more scapegoats at this point. It's late enough in Rhoads's tenure any bad hires he made or recruiting misses come back to him and they'll become much harder to move past.

Student fees account for a little more than 2% of the athletic department revenues. It's coming from the students... I really don't consider that originating from the university.

In the grand scheme, the money from the student fee is not that significant (I agree there), but your distinction between "Money from students" and "Money from the university" is silly.

JP may have put forth a bad contract, but he also has been better than anyone in recent memory at filling the stands, fundraising, improving facilities, and getting people excited about Cyclone athletics. JP isn't going anywhere unless Leath has some personal vendetta against him.

There's some goodwill residue from those 2 wins to close last season. Without those 2, the sales would have dropped by several thousand more.

The SEZ will be done by the home opener next year. I think sales will actually increase in 2015. 2016 could be an entirely different story if he doesn't get this turned around. If he doesn't, a coaching change after that season seems most likely to me. That's halfway into his contract. The buyout would seem more reasonable at that point and you've demonstrated to coaching candidates that you were more than fair.

By then, we've demonstrated to coaching candidates that we just don't care if they actually do anything or not. 6 years is more than fair already.

He's our coach. Period. Get over it. The same people griping now are probably the same ones that celebrated getting him signed to the new contract. Let's talk about something we actually have control over, like cheering this crew on no matter what. They are Iowa State just like all of us alums are.

Money earmarked directly for athletics... not general university programs is what I should have said. Talking about something that generates 2% of the budget... now that's silly.

While I have no reason to think this will happen, I would love to come on here as the final whistle sounds on Saturday after an Iowa State win just to see how the cognitive dissonance will play out

CPR will be here for at least this season and next. The SEZ will sell tickets next year, but after that, there needs to be some hope for good football. If there is no bowl game this season or next, he will be gone.
