I bet the stat is true, but misleading since 3rd stringer Joe Shmoe doesn't have James Andrews repairing his knee. The bigger of a star the more the organization is going to spend to get the right help for you.

I've never understood the whole James Andrews thing. Once you've diagnosed a knee injury, isn't the surgery fairly straightforward? I figured it was probably pretty black and white how to repair a torn ACL.

That sounds hard to believe at first glance. But then again, there are quite a few players who aren't big names that you don't realize never come back after that type of injury.

More of that might have to do with their name. If Adrian Peterson would have completely blown out his knee and was dropped by the Vikings, Im sure almost any team would pick him up and give him another chance based off of his name. Now if some third string WR who only plays special teams blew out his knee, I doubt any team would pick him up.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. The big name guys are the ones who are given a second chance. But when Joe Schmoe from the practice squad tears up his knee, it's over.

I am sooo looking forward to daily updates of how many different therapeutic exercises he has done on the knee, how many dumps he has taken since his last meal, and what video game he played in the last hour. I hope ESPN dedicates hours and hours of mindless debate over whether he should have been in the game/continued playing in the game/come back to start next year/wait until mid-season. I can't get enough!!!! :jimlad:

Would you rather hear about that or Tebow?

Unfortunately AD has raised the bar way too high on expectations for recovery from ACL repair... Hopefully he/they don't hurry back to quickly.

So do you blame Shanahan?
I think he shares part of the blame.
First, after the injury in the 1st quarter, they had a 14 point lead and the 2nd leading rusher in the league...yet hardly used Morris.
Secondly, they saw over the next two quarters that RG3 was clearly ineffective as a runner and passer, why not bench him and bring in a healthy backup with a decent amount of time left in the game. Cousins had clearly played well as a backup in prior pressure situations.

I agree with this. Cousins good very well be a good starting QB some time in his career. He was perfectly capable of finishing the game and winning it.

RGIII will be on the phone with Adrian Peterson talking about rehab soon

Agree. Thinking the same thing. AP went into an insane rehab program and betting RG3 is looking at the same program AP did. If he ever wants to be a running QB again he might want to rehab as if he would be returning as a running back. Rebuilding an already rebuilt knee. Like a copy of a copy-

Actually, there are apparently many different types of surgery depending on the type of tear, severity, and the type of athlete getting the surgery. One of the local sports radio shows had a surgeon on the other day and he went into a lot of detail. If AP and RGIII tore different ligaments then there's a chance they will have very different procedures.

That's got to be worrisome. I'm not sure if RG3 comes back as the same type of player he was this season.

It's just a crappy deal that he went into the game with a strained LCL and came out of it with a TORN LCL and ACL. That is nuts. Just having a strained LCL certainly puts your knee stability at risk - but not such a huge risk that a completely torn LCL and LCL is all that likely. RG3 got as unlucky as a person could get. The chances of him fully tearing 2 ligaments, even with being already injured, has to be pretty small...

I'm sure his rehab will be nuts. He may not be 4.39 speed by next fall but I wouldn't doubt if he's close. It's the lateral movement that will take a lot of work, and luck in terms of how everything heals.

The better question is whether there will be artificial turf in Washington for the opener. You can't grow grass in Washington in January.

This might be a relevant question in this thread if the grass (or lack thereof) had anything to do with this injury in the first place - but it didn't. The original injury occurred while he was still at Baylor. The reinjury occurred when his leg whipped against the defender tackling him, hyperextending the knee. The reinjury was tweaked when he was tackled awkwardly out of bounds, causing his knee to bend awkwardly. His knee gave out when he reached down to try to pick up a bad snap, causing it to buckle in several directions. NONE of that had anything to do with the field at Washington - but it sure is easy to blame the field for it.
