Iowa played a great game and beat the #3 team in the country.. Good for them.. Football fans across the country are relieved that we don't have to watch another horrible BCS championship game with an overrated Big11 team.

Congratulations to the Hawkeyes. The Penn State game was the first time in ages i have cheered for them. Now a Big 12 school will face an SEC school rather than having the annual SEC Big Ten Beatdown that we've all come to hate every January. Gloating about it is fine hawk fans...just leave us out of it please.

Really? Based on... ??

Based on the fact they beat us, I guess. I've got to stick up for you here DJK. I don't understand why we still try to compare ourselves to Iowa at this point. They beat us, they had a big win this weekend. To think, by any stretch of the imagination that Iowa wouldn't beat us by more at this point of the season is really drinking some Kool-Aid. I watched the game on Saturday, I'm sorry, but the Hawkeyes are playing better football than us right now. I don't know if they are putting up the Offensive numbers we have lately, but, they are putting together complete games, stopping teams when they need to and getting a W at the end of the day. No matter who they are beating, if they are winning, they are better than us, get over it. There is alway next year.

Every fan base has those fans, Iowa just has more for some reason.

Here is my Iowa fan story from the weekend. I know some people that are all about Iowa. They have an Iowa flag flying, Iowa doormats, Iowa stickers in their windows, Iowa coats and hats, their kids are always dressed in Iowa clothes. Sunday morning I ran into them and told them Iowa had a nice win yesterday. He said oh they won, did they play anyone good? My response was I guess, didnt you watch the game? He said no I dont watch the games on TV. I knew they had never been to a game and couldnt find Kinick if you drove them by it, so I asked oh you listen to the games them, he said no not really.

Oh man, I hate those casual fans that know nothing about the team but give money to the university by buying the merchandise because it's just what they do. ISU fans should be glad there aren't any of those, and that the only people who buy ISU apparel are the true fans.

Nobody said we don't have those, but Ive yet to meet an ISU fan yet that actively wears the apparel and doesnt know anything about the team. It just happens that there are more Iowa "fans" like that than ISU ones if I had to guess.

Yes, everyone was cheering for Iowa to beat Penn State on Saturday (even the BCS). As a loyal Cyclone fan I was pulling for the Hawks as well & this was a good game to mark on their win list this year.

However, as Ben Bruns mentioned on the radio on Saturday, Iowa beat the #65 team in the country based on Sagrian ratings (which is based on strength of schedule).

One of these days the Cyclones under Coach Chizik are going to be able to pull some upsets like this as well in the years to come. We need to be patient & let the coaching staff build & bring in the quality players we need to move this program to the next level.

The comments in the DM Reg. by this so-called Hawk fan about the Cyclones is absurd. Keep drinking the Kool-aid Hawk fan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... speak for yourself. I hate Iowa and want them to lose every game. Go Purdue!

I was being sarcastic. I personally love having those fans. I don't care if they don't know anything about the team - they're giving money to the university, and that only helps. Look at Texas. How much burn orange do you see worn every day, even in Iowa? Do you think those fans know what Colt McCoy did against Baylor? Or who Colt McCoy even is? Doubt it.

All I'm saying is, stories of Iowa fans who don't even know who the QB is only make me laugh.

Oh, and for the record, I was out last week and at dinner, this girl from ISU, decked out in Cardinal and Gold, (this was on a Sunday) asked if ISU beat Missouri. Last weekend.

Can you really call them fans? They are more like fan followers or lazy fans. They want you to think they are fans because it is the cool thing to do. They do the easy things like buy stuff but dont put forth the effort to pay attention to if the team wins or loses. Read the first line of my post, I understand all fan bases have these fans.

I'm not attacking you - it's more of a response to all the posts on this subject I've seen on this site. Maybe they're fans, maybe they're not. But they spend $$$

I was out at Jordan Creek Mall yesterday. I figured I would be seeing nothing but people wearing EIU gear after their big win and few people wearing ISU paraphernalia taking into consideration the poor results on the football field this year and lack of optimism heading into basketball season. I was pleasantly surprised to see more people wearing ISU gear than EIU gear. I decided to take an unofficial poll and out of the first 20 people I saw wearing either it was ISU 14 and EIU 6. Way to represent Cyclone fans! I was proud!
I saw a kid wearing Cyclone gear at the Vikings game Sunday. Unfortunately he was a Packer fan:no: Oh well,1 out of 2 isn't bad.

Doubt it - if Ohio St. and Penn St. both win out, they'll both get in. All Ohio St has to do is be in the top 14 and they'll get an at-large.

It's not quite that simple. If Penn State wins out, they'll qualify as a conference champion. If Ohio State wins out, they need Pittsburgh (currrently the highest ranking team in the Big East) and North Carolina (the highest ranked ACC team) to be ranked 16th or lower so they don't qualify for their automatic berth (as conference champions) and Utah, Boise State and Ball State to pick up some losses to have a chance. There are several possibilties for the at-large berth, but Ohio State, with two losses, is not a likely candidate.

The "Ohio State being the top 14 and qualifying" is not an automatic. If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers (not likely), OSU can qualify if they are in the top 14, but the Big XII and SEC currently have teams ranked above them who would take the at-large berth before them.

They have a nice win and then Hawk fan I know from the 80's emerges from his pizza box filled parents basment and with his fat little fingers bangs out his .02 worth on the internet.

This is exactly why I root for those black and gold hayden fry worshiping arrogant MFers to lose every game they ever play.

Best post I have read in a long time!!!!

Are you saying that UNC/Pitt would have to be ranked lower than 16th when the final BCS poll comes out to not take one of the spots the Bucks could get? Second, do you really think that if it came down to picking between Utah, Boise, Ball St., and OSU, that anyone BUT OSU would get picked?, regardless of where they finish?

If Oregon State wins out and I think they have a good shot, then
they go to the Rose Bowl, USC will go to the Fiesta Bowl.
Throw in the 2 Big 12 BCS bowl berths, 2 SEC BCS bowl berths, that pretty much shuts the door on OSU.

Actually I think Michigan State beats Penn State this weekend because Penn State will still be thinking what if from the last game.

Big Ten getting 2 in the BCS is kind of the same path John McCain had to win the election, it is possible, but lots of things have to happen first.
