Is there any evidence that TJ has the unique capability to retain Foster and Hunter? Are old WI ties enough for Hunter, and would he bolt if a different coach were hired?

Seems like people are completely guessing on that.

It’s going to be a sell job for sure. What TJ really has going for him is guys like Hunter and Foster can reach out to Georges, Monte, Diante, Deonte, Matt T, etc and have them vouch for TJ.

That is the smart way to go about it. Set up a zoom call with several of them, but make sure Matt is primary since he is a Wisconsin guy and specifically came because of TJ.

You say this as if it is fact. Do you have inside knowledge?
I suppose it could have been taken that way but my response was to a message that stated there were conspiracy theories. The fact that I said Occam's razor kind of implies it was an assumption.

The worst part (maybe the only bad part) about the Hoiberg hire working out is it forever give an excuse to justify high-risk hires.

To compound this, after Fred left we followed it up with a traditional process to hire someone who checked a lot of boxes (HC experience, winning record, good recruiter, style of play), and it blew up in our faces. Which would encourage Pollard to go back to his method of identifying and zeroing in on his candidate.

We love to trap ourselves with those ideas, as though a winning coach couldn't do the same thing when hired.

They would’ve had several guys returning from an 11-7 MWC team. Guys left the program with the change. Not sure he actually cleaned house. But the surprising thing is that they did pretty well his first year and went downhill this year. If a guy had to come in year 1 and clean house you would expect the opposite. That’s what Menzies did there. Cleaned house after Rice, then won 4, 8, then 11 conference games and had several starters returning.

Let’s also note that both at SDSU and at UNLV his centerpiece player has been inherited.
Couple things wrong with this post. TJ escorted a couple of players to the transfer portal in his first year (who are now doing well at other schools), and even pushed Amauri Hardy, now at Oregon, out the door last year (who he actually really needed this year, since Jenkins turned out to not be who we thought he would be). The ones that left when Menzies was fired were JTT of Baylor, and Ntambwe who left TT before the year started, after sitting out a year. Both good players.

Also, Menzies didn't clean house when he got to UNLV, there was no one left, players went pro, or left because Rice was fired. He had a DII Juco player as point guard (who knew there was a D2 Juco, lol) and got embarrassed badly by Duke. He had his best class coming in when he was fired, but the Rebel boosters wanted him out, and the AD didn't want to wait in case he had a great year.

Exactly. Except that search was done in June. Doing a search in March/April is much different.

Things could get dicey in a few years for Pollard. If Campbell is still here, there's no way you can do anything with Pollard, but TJ is fully on him. Does Wendy really let him make another basketball hire?

I will keep saying this but the “new” posters that show up with an intimate knowledge of all of TJs decisions do nothing to help his cause among those that are skeptical. This happened last time as well. I’m not going to believe obvious friends and family over results.

Let him prove me wrong on his own.

I’m not sure why so many people have anti-pollard feelings. He’s done a great job of leading this department from the beginning. Has he missed on hires? Probably but CSP was not his choice 6 years ago. That falls 100% on Leath.

jamie has done more for Iowa State than anyone could’ve. He created the culture. He’s a straight shooter with morals and ethics. If he says in the video not to listen to rumors or believe anything until the department announces or confirms than I believe that.

If it’s TJ, I’m on board. If not, I’m on board. I guaranty JP knows more about this business than all of us chuckleheads combined.

I have no problem with Jamie.

But I’m allowed to not like the hire.

Agree. That argument to support TJ as the new coach is a paper tiger. TJ can't talk to current ISU players until he's hired. He's been gone long enough that he doesn't have a close relationship with any current ISU players. As far as his current UNLV players/recruits- hitting them up at this point is pretty sleezy. And we know what Jamie said about integrity.

Hunter's HS coach was quoted yesterday by saying they would hang tight and see who the new coach will be. Sure he still might come to ISU, but we all know how crazy spring recruiting season can be with NBA departures and Transfers. I hope ISU can keep Hunter, but he will have choices like Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, etc. etc.
