I bet Rhoads had known about this for a while, they just chose to release it the day after signing day. Hopefully he knew about it during the coaches convention before the Title game or whenever it was.
Maybe we can do some research and see what D coaches got fired along with their head coaches this last few months? Would love to see the California connection to stay, but we need a quality coach even more.

If we follow our normal pattern, then the names that hit the media are not the likely choices, for better or for worse.
Bobby Elliot and Atif Austin (sp?) Bob is out at SDSU but has coached here prior. Austin was a player here and is at UNI as a RB coach.
Who ever the next guy is, we need to make sure that he is a good recruiter. We are losing a good recruiter in Ash and we need to replace one. Also, who is going to be the new recruiting coordinator, someone already on staff, or the new person coming in?
Perhaps Wally has a connection to a departing D-backs coach from USF!

Isn't Austin the guy pictured climbing up the goal posts after a huge win several years ago?
I wanted Atif last year when Rhoads was hired. Now if he can make the switch to the defensive side of the ball in coaching. He was a four year starter in the D backfield and worked with the secondary and linbackers as a Grad asst. at SW Minn. St. Go get him!
