Brock was an exception. He had mono his junior year and had lost weight and strength so he dropped in rankings.
I disagree. He is still the same athlete he was 6 months ago. If he opens it up again and comes back to the staff and says he made a mistake I think the staff should reevaluate and not automatically reject him out of spite. If they question his commitment this time around it is understandable. But you also have to remember he is a 17 year old kid who was likely just offered a hell of a lot of money. I don't know about you, but I made at least one or two questionable decisions as a 17 year old. Hell, I don't even want to think about the stuff I did the summer between my junior and senior years.

Teams like Iowa State can't afford to have this attitude. Not with 4-star recruits anyway.
Xavier Townsend decommitted really late from us. We kept a good relationship with him and he ended up transferring to us.
Even if Thomalla stays with Alabama, it still benefits us to keep a good relationship. Burning a bridge with him does not help in any way. Keeping a positive relationship can help when dealing with his high school coaches, teammates, etc.
Having the attitude that we won't take him back is a mentality that the team out east uses.
Keep in mind who our head coach is and how much he deeply cares about the young men he develops relationships with. I have no doubt he and Thomalla are still good. And if we add another QB, I would expect it is with the understanding we would still take back Thomalla, unlikely as it may be.
Technically, we've had 7 play in the NFL (8 with Admunson). Yes, Espinoza's and Doxzon's NFL experiences were really small.
I'm guessing it wouldn't matter if the Chefs won 5 in a row. Their fans are greedy at this point. If you like KC more than ISU, that's your choice. I just don't understand it.
Personally I choose Iowa State success over my professional teams but I don’t think we should rake someone over the coals for thinking differently.
Remember a lot of people don’t start liking Iowa State until they get to Ames. If they come from a city with professional sports they likely have a longer bond with those teams than ISU.
I would root for my pro teams over other professional teams with former ISU players.
What I wouldn’t do is go to this board and start trashing Purdy, Halliburton, Breece, etc. if they played my teams. I’d actually hope the ISU guys played well but my team still won.

I don't bet on the games and don't have have a strong attachment to any pro teams. I enjoy any competitive game (and generally root for the underdog) and in the grand scheme of things I want the former cyclones to do well if for no other reason than braggin rights amongst buddies if it enters the convo
To me, it’s dependent on position a little. I don’t have a problem rooting for my pro team against the Ravens because Kolar barely plays. Purdy is a different matter. He’s constantly facing criticism with people calling him mid. The more he wins the less loud those people are. And if he wins a SB, the only people saying that would look like idiots.
I do think that people greatly underestimate what having successful pros does for ISU recruiting. The hawkeyes have been recruiting off of that for decades.
Easton Webb is an exception too. He was committed to play DI baseball until recently. If Webb doesn’t commit to Iowa State I am confident the staff can find another prospect they believe talented enough to offer a scholarship. They have a good history evaluating talent and finding guys somewhat overlooked. Ultimately, if they don’t get a commitment this year our room is still very solid.
I think this was always true for me because there was the allure of amateurism. Now with that gone its going to be more like rooting for a pro team.
It’s a toss up who I like more, I’d probably chose the Cyclones just due to more sports. Luckily the Chiefs don’t play the Cyclones, they may play against former Cyclones, who I like to follow and root for… but that doesn’t change me being a Chiefs fan.
Also being a Chiefs fan before Mahomes/Reid wasn’t much different than being a Cyclones fan. Wanting your favorite NFL team to lose to a Cyclones player would be like wanting the Cyclones to lose to someone who went to your old HS.
Yeah, we wouldn’t have anyone commit if they were told up front they they would take someone else over them. You don’t say the quiet part out loud.
That analogy totally depends on your priorities. I couldn’t care less if my HS team won another game ever. I think that everyone has a priority list of teams they follow. Even if is subconscious. In my case, ISU is so far above “my” NFL team that I choose to root for some former ISU players and the subsequent recruiting benefits over them. Not everyone is like that obviously. That’s ok.
