It was full offer.

Correct, Brock did, in fact, receive a full ride offer from Bama. Very common knowledge. Very common for bigger schools to swoop in late to steal these types of low risk prospects. Yes, even ones that have a lowly offer from Iowa State.

I will add that it is certainly within someone’s rights for someone to not “believe” something that is true.

In D1 FB, it is either a full ride or walk-on.

Yes a full ride.... D1 football programs don't give partial scholarships
If I recall correctly…As of this House settlement, now they do. And all the other sports. Starting this Fall term.

It was such a change, that stood out to me.

How many schools take advantage of that is another question. I could see our valued former “walkons” splitting a handful of scholarships.

It's a 105 roster limit with 105 scholarships, before it was a 120 roster limit with 85 scholarships for 85 players

But looks like you're right that partial is an option now. Wasn't before

I don't. Even if their scouts really liked something in Brock there were 50 other guys they could have gotten before him as backup recruits that were better prospects. Alabama doesn't reach and offer 3 star QBs with offers from ISU as their biggest offer. I just find it hard to believe. I have no doubt he was offered a walk-on spot.
But you appreciate all Brock did at ISU and likewise admire and appreciate all his professional success…right?

Sure, Alabama wanted to wait till May for the undeniable Layne Hatcher.

So you folks’ definition of “wealthy” is “makes more money than me”. Gotcha.

@Cyclad, you listed his last salary with the Chiefs, not his Battlehawks salary. UFL coaches make low six figures.

I have a friend whose husband was a prominent attorney for over thirty years. She worked a good job, and he made a lot of money.

They declared bankruptcy a year or so before he retired.

Is that “wealthy”?
Yes, wealthy and extremely foolish.

Georgia or Auburn, probably, yes. Not Alabama. Surprisingly, NIL will slowly be the undoing of Alabama. They don't have the support system (at least not yet) in place to pay much.
I keep seeing this idea posted the Bama is declining due to lagging NIL. I had basically chalked it up to the coaching change.

What is the NIL concern based on? Are there major differences in size or wealth of the Bama donor base versus Auburn or Georgia? Or is this just wild speculation based on the general idea that the state of Alabama is poorer and low population in general?

It worked out great for him I just doubt that Alabama offered him a full ride. Alabama may offer a guy that has several other offers but not a guy basically only offered by ISU. They'll let the scholly stay open and get someone else in a position they need depth. And the idea that Bama offered him and even U of A and ASU didn't slide in with a late offer makes it hard to believe. You hear stories about offers all the time and question what they really were. Think of Curtis Stinsons son this year. You're trying to tell me ISU gave him a full ride offer and he ended up at North ******* Texas? I doubt it. We gave him a walk-on offer is what it was.

What’s your position on the staff? Oh wait you aren’t on Alabamas staff..so you really dont know anything

Yeah, it sounds like Bama doesn't have quite the same resources as some of the other schools they're competing against. They're no slouch, to be sure, but not the big kid on the block.

Alabama has been a master at paying $5 to $50,000 for key players under the table for 50 years. However, competing against Georgia, Miami,Texas, and Texas A&M for cash/players is no comparison. Alabama is not one of the rich guys.

Why do you think Sabin retired? He saw the writing on the wall. A salary cap with a third party approval process for nil contracts will level the playing field for everyone. You still can't stop cheating, but what safeguards will the new ruling entity put in? Who knows?
