ASU, UA report $57.5M in athletics subsidies, operating deficits in 2022
Major college athletics subsidies receded as revenues bounced back from the COVID-19 pandemic, but were the highest of any year other than 2021.www.azcentral.com
CW pointed out earlier that the media budgets are really strained right now. Let's not ignore that because there is still this thing called bankruptcy. Disney is still of the mindset ESPN is a separate entity; meaning spin-off, sell, or file. That's worth keeping an eye on. Also, what will tell in the next few days are their competitors pockets. And, last but not least, the advertising market, in the end, is the REAL player in these large contracts. Mark my words, 'margins' in the advertising industry will be more important than ever. In other words, as I've said so many times before, they'll be using technology to more effectively 'target' those eyeballs that will spend.
