Looks like Shack Boy has joined Club Simp.
Noncon games are scheduled several years in advance, so it’s hard to predict who’s preseason top 25 that many years in advance. ESPN and Fox don’t decide who plays each week, just what time they do. Sorry every single college football game isn’t 2:30 CT for every time zones convenience of not getting up too early or staying up too late.

So, essentially you’re just saying that Iowa fans are bandwagon fans only? Cause Iowa fans supported basketball just fine when they were winning.

Kirk better watch out or suddenly football won’t mean anything to Iowa fans soon.
Iowa fans are definitely more bandwagon-y than ISU fans

Not sure how any ideas, maps, spitballing of future top tier conferences has any legitimacy if it's more than 48 schools. There are currently 34 teams in the Big10/SEC and adding 14 to that could even be a stretch.

Greed will win out.
Biggest problem is there are a bunch in the B10/SEC that dont belong as well. But we all know how they would be included because of their grandfathered affiliation.

Haven't heard about any ACC pain lately, FSU sucks so will everything go away? another conference elimination would give Big12 a potential 2nd spot.

Just a drip, drip, drip as the expiration deadline for that all powerful ACC GoR gets closer and closer.

SIAP- a column from 1978 about the split into FBS and FCS (then D1 and D1-AA)

Much of the sentiment and concerns from that change mirror the current situation, with the Big 12 and ACC filling the role of FCS.

The biggest schools consolidating their power and wealth has been a theme of college football for a century

Intriguing.

Had time only for a quick read. Based on that, some assumptions presented seem to hold true in the current landscape, others not so much, as could be expected. That was prior to ESPN's existence (among other things in that regard) and the mid-'80s Oklahoma lawsuit about broadcast rights (I'm far from expert on details of that, others may assess as they wish).

Amusing sidebar, it points to "The Boise States and Michigan States" as far as expectation for program-building. And BSU is in the first 12-team playoff, MSU not, in 2024. (Postseason structure and evolution would've been nearly impossible to predict 40+ years ago)

Imo that is an example of how access to the top level of the postseason is an equalizer in football. That as long as there isn’t actual separation, and that lower revenue schools have reasonable access to the postseason, it’s tenable in football.

Boise State football not only survived, but actually grew, when moving to FBS in 90’s and getting to BCS bowls and now CFP

Basketball is a bigger concern imo. There is no “access” equalizer. It will be difficult for ACC and Big 12 to maintain in a pay to play era when the P2 make twice as much

Yeah just coming off the national championship helped perception a bit, still went to the first playoff but yeah Boise being the example is pretty wild with there continued name relevance. One of the few G5 schools many people would know

Still say no one will ever take Boise St seriously with their stupid gimmick blue field.

The first thing I would do as an AD if I wanted to get into a P4 conference (pac is just a reworked MtW) is change that field to a natural looking color.

There is a reason no major program or NFL has a alternate color field, only small schools and high schools looking for a gimmick to be different.

I know I know they love their field but they really need to think about it, outside of their AD and Fans, everyone else thinks its a joke.

This is one rule I wish the NCAA would enact. Fields should be natural appearing color, to be consistent across the sport.

I like the blue field, makes them different, you think that is a real reason? I’m actually asking because I never gave that a thought, just being G5 was enough to not take them seriously for me
