Re: Rashad Vaughn

If I recall correctly, Hines at the Tribune tweeted this:

Vaughn
Thomas
Hogue
Georges
McKay

Starting line-up is not important, but RV is a 100% lock to start and play over 30 minutes a game. That is one of our main advantages.

He can post whatever he wants and I agree the starting lineup isn't that important but Nader will start. The fact that so many good players may not start makes me giddy. How good will this team be next year?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Final 5 will be Iowa State, UNLV, Kentucky, North Carolina and Minnesota. He's not going to eliminate the hometown team, yet.

I would lean toward this as most likely as well. Arizona, Baylor, and KU most likely to get dropped IMO.

Well, McKay is not eligible until second semester, so maybe that is what Hines tweeted. Personally, I think the board is expecting too much out of Nader, so I see McKay as being the other post in conference play. A lot of the Nader machine got rolling prior to getting McKay. I agree though, the good news is we should not need our posts to play so conservatively on defense next year. Georges, Hogue, McKay, and Nader should see all see somewhere around 20-30 minutes a game. I also have hope that Edozie will develop into that situational 10-15 minutes a game player for foul trouble against teams with big frontcourts.

my opinion from what I have heard. Take it with a grain of salt I suppose. Nader is capable of playing the 3. And Hogue is built to play the 4 and probably will fill in for Ejim. Nader will play the 3 and McKay will back up Hogue/Ejim. Maybe Vaughn starts at point but it seems unlikely.

Or maybe we just roll with this lineup:

Niang
Nader
Hogue
Edozie
McKay

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Also:

Morris
Custer
Vaughn/SDW
Long
Thomas

Just alternate between those two lineups

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I doubt next years team will have the traditional 1-5 positions as Usual. Fred doesn't need them. He'll put the best 5 out there who play the best together and starting won't matter. I don't know who is going to start and I don't really care that much. All I know is the team Fred is putting together for next year will put the squawks so called "depth" to shame.

If Vaughn comes...

Morris
Thomas
Vaughn
Hogue
Niang

Bench: Naz, Nader, McKay, SDW. Vaughn isn't a PG. He's a true 2/3. After MM performance against Iowa, I'm becoming more and more comforatable with him as our main PG next year. He's having a really good freshman season and I think he grew up a little against Iowa. With a season to prepare, weights, shooting etc.. I think MM will be fully ready next year ot run our team next 3 years. He's going to be damn good his jr. sr year.

How often does Fred play "true positions" in the first place? Hogue at the four is maybe the only person starting right now for us that is closest to a true position and even then it's a stretch.

Dorsey-Walker,Thomas,Nader, Long, Edozie, Custer fill out rotation. Gibson transfers, and Bluford comes in with Ellerman at the end of blowouts.

Wonder if the Iowa media will finally concede who the better program is. LOL!!

Re: Rashad Vaughn

For those thinking McKay is a bench player next year -

just remember that he was the headliner at Indian Hills last year. Hogue was the 3rd best player on that JuCo team.

Is Kane a point guard? If I recall correctly Vaughn has been seeing some minutes at the 1 for Findlay and Fred has shown he will play talent and make the other team adjust. What is a true 2/3 anyways? Seems like an oxymoron. Vaughn is a shooting guard that can play the 1-3 spots in college. There is no coach better than Hoiberg at utilizing a versatile playmaker like that and Vaughn, to the benefit of his career and ISU's success, would play minutes as the lead guard.

Yep - I have no doubts that Fred would use Vaughn as the "PG" in situations where we're not facing elite ball pressure (Marcus Smart). That will allow him more "scorers" on the floor.
