Re: Rashad Vaughn
I like Casey's point though-we are ranked in the Coaches poll ahead of Kentucky, Kansas, UNC and unquestionably UNLV. If Vaughn is concerned about being able to compete for a national championship / deep NCAA run next year (as suggested from the esteemed Mr. Williams), then this waiting for verification seems to only be helping our chances.
Now, conversely, if Vaughn really wants to be the man, but he wants to be the man on the most storied of programs he can, then the waiting impact is still unclear. I personally agree that the Harrison twins SHOULD stay in school, but I think their egos won't let them. If 7 of the top 9 from KU declare for the draft, then I have some major concerns (yes, even with the standard amazing recruiting class they have coming in). Most notably, I think Vaughn has some skills that Booker does not, namely explosiveness.
Similarly, if UNC loses Hairston (kicked off team / declares for draft) and Tokoto transfers, then I could see Vaughn seeing an opportunity to be the true shooter / SG on UNC (depending on how Pinson and Jackson develop their 3PT shooting / playmaking skills).
Finally, I don't really see Selden improving enough to declare for the draft by the end of this year. However, if he did, then I could see Vaughn seeing an opportunity to be the optimal SG / shooter / playmaker at KU. I see Frankamp as being the typical KU limited minute until Jr guy, and I see Vaughn as more polished than Oubre, especially at the MJ skills (i.e., playmaking and pull up J), which Vaughn will certainly know by the time he commits.
I sure hope it is the latter and not the former.
Notably, I see the background of his Twitter site as something that should not lead him to seek prestige as much as the right fit. I personally think he has been holding back on pulling the trigger to make sure our team is good enough that he has the opportunity to achieve some goals he has set for himself and his selected team next year. It is a long season that has just begun, but I'd have to say we are making as good of a case as we can.
