Gonna take the side of high school boys here. The double digit prom pictures on the wall are just a minute sampling of the teenage girls we've experienced so far. Only one of those involved a boy of mine doing the asking. They do the pursuing as far as I can tell. The exceptionally good looking ones seem primarily interested in help with their homework from my nerdy sons, who tend to know exactly why they are getting such attention. The girls tend to spend most of their time taking selfies, and then whine something about rate change problems just being too difficult.

They are in my house often enough that my impression is not good. When I observe them in another environment, they tend to text each other when they are sitting right next to each other so they can not so subtly say something catty about another girl sitting right there.

By the time my sons have college girls around, they seem to have outgrown some of the nonsense anyway. With the helicopter and enabling parents, not sure any of the kids regardless of gender mature too quickly although they are exposed to mature topics way too young.

As for the tennis, my boys have all excelled at that. At times, they have practiced with girls and teamed up with girls at state coed. Not surprisingly, I tend to like the tennis playing girls better. My nieces were exceptional tennis players, one placing at state three years. They often practiced with my boys, their cousins, when they could meet up because it was important to return some better serves and shot variety than they could get from their female teammates. If your kid is gonna date at some point, might as well be a smart, respectful tennis player. And better that she gets some experience dating in a more controlled environment than facing college guys without knowing how to handle the situation.

You sound so young, being "stoked". I can picture you snow boarding in the X games or something.Though not in Hawaii, obviously. Will you be staying at @cyrocksmypants 's estate?

Surfer culture in the 60's. I've never snowboarded, but I spent a lot of time on the slopes in my healthier, more flexible youth. Love love love skiing, hated when the snowboarders took over the slopes. Let's just say in the early days, they didn't play nice with skiers.

Congratulations @cowgirl836 on getting that net neutrality thread moved to the politics forum. You have a potty mouth.

it didn't start there???? I thought it was there all along. All I did was encourage someone (not on CF!....I think) to insert a spiny plant somewhere.....I claim innocence :D

when are you going???
November 2018...following the basketball team to the tournament. Huge roster - Duke, Xavier, Georgetown, Arizona, Gonzaga, Auburn, San Diego St, Illinois & us. We decided to go ahead with the full tournament package because of the doubt that the ISU-sponsored packages would still be available when the packages trickled down to the low-rent donors. Win or lose, we're going to see some hellacious basketball games!

I have been one-upped by my son in internet skilz. Again. I spent three days trying to come up with five tickets for Sunday evening or Monday morning/afternoon for The Last Jedi, within a 30 mile radius of Ames. No joy. Finally broke it to him today, asked him if he could find some in Kansas City. He messages me and says where do you like to sit in the theater? Little bastard (no, not really) found five seats IN AMES on Monday morning. I'm torn. I want to be thrilled because we get to go with the grandkids after all, but I'm embarrassed how frickin' easy it was for him.

Don't be so hard on yourself. We have recollection of the day when we didn't have calculators while he and his generation have always had computers at their disposal. There is a little bit of truth to the old adage of teaching an old dog new tricks when it comes to building technology learning on top of technology familiarity.

Or maybe you just suck at this. ;)

Not only did KC use "stoked". She also spelled skillz with a "z". Can we say that retirement has youthanized her?

The tennis teams do tend to consist of good kids. My daughter's team has a cumulative grade point average above 4.0 every year. I'm very happy my daughter seems to have no desire to be in the popular crowd. Every time she's with those girls she gets reminded about how much they gossip about other girls.

The Guthrie seems to consistently put on a quality show. I don't recall ever hearing one of their shows get panned.
And what a building. Looking out from terrace at the end of the "Endless Bridge", those views across the river are fantastic. I think they're probably even better during the winter since the leaves would block so many of the lights. It really looks like something from a postcard with the Stone Arch Bridge in the foreground.

MrsWx and I do that with family...okay usually it is me going all "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?!" and her telling me that it doesn't affect to so I should get over it.

Made a semi an offer on a van. It isn't low balling IMO as it is actually in the middle of the KBB fair value range and as high as we can go right now. Downfall is they have it priced above KBB so I know they won't take it. Figure I would just tell them to let me know if they change their mind.

Today was the last workout day of my first 10 weeks at FXB. Feeling good even though I know I haven't lost much more the last five weeks.
