Since I don't know who Jennifer Mac is (I'm assuming it's not the one that doesn't believe in shots), this got me thinking of chili mac. I just started working out again in the mornings after a couple of months off so I am hungry all the time. Anyway, this got me thinking about whether I should make chili for the Vikings/Packers game on Sunday. It seems like a good day to make chili as it should be pretty cold and it is a late afternoon game so the chili could cook all day. Now I have to decide if I should make the spicy, sweet recipe or the healthier part-turkey recipe. Also, should I make wings with the chili to eat during the game? Making wings seems like overkill but the Vikes are actually good this year and I could have some neighbors over so I won't feel obliged to eat all of the wings that I cook. However, Mrs JC is going to a friend's cabin this weekend and may not appreciate coming home to a house with a few neighbors over for a football game and a chili and chicken wing mess in the kitchen with a recycling bin full of empty bottles (I'll think about this dilemma). Moving on, I probably should make guacamole. A meat, cheese and cracker tray might be a good idea so that the girls will have something to eat as they won't eat chili or wings. Maybe tacos would be good but that is just asking for a mess on our new couch. Ooh, I just remembered that Mrs. JC froze some of her special monster cookie dough so that could be put out as a treat.
Back to the point of this post, I might be coming down with a cold and I hope it's not from my flu shot and that Jenny Mac (not CS's honey) is right about shots. So, in conclusion, CS, please send me some brisket from Danny Edwards when you move to KC and be sure to take an inappropriate picture with the pig out front. Beginning a workout routine makes you hungry all the time.

Note: I have not been drinking and the only drug I am using is Dayquil.

what is your chili recipe, maybe do spicy-sweet? Can always set cayenne or something on the side for people to add more spice if they want. If you're a heathen who does beanless, ignore this (and you are terrible) but I would do part turkey part beef or whatever so it's a bit healthy. We always throw black beans and diced tomatoes in. Then some brown sugar and Worcestershire plus whatever spices.

The chili should mostly be in one pot, you shouldn't have a mess from that? Wings would be messy, this is true. If you did decide to do tacos instead of wings, you could overlap ingredients - if you put hamburger in the chili, just take some in a different pan and put taco seasoning on. Boom, done. Cheddar cheese, sour cream - heck, I guess you do have most of what you'd need then. I don't think tacos are less messy than chili couch-wise.

If you want fancy cheese, get this or their merlot.

Coworker brings it for treat days (she gets a discount on it) and it is SO GOOD. The ladies will like your cheese. But it's kinda fancy and pricey so if you just want a trashy cheese tray just do slices of Velveeta, I guess.

Cookies sound delish. For a party favor, give everyone a bag of the bottles they drank so it doesn't fill your recycling and anger your wife. Problem solved! Or, put the bottles into your big recycling thing in your garage if you have one. And you have the teenager kids, right? Put them to good use and have them clean the kitchen for you.

I really don't like colds.

My favorite remedy for a cold:

1 brandy snifter

one shot of SoCo

Nuke 30 seconds

CAREFULLY remove from microwave (may need oven gloves).

Wave under stuffed nose and inhale fumes until SoCo has cooled

Drink SoCo.

Repeat as often as necessary.

You'll still have a cold, but you won't really care...

This is me but I'm still in the field.

To be fair, they did warn us often that you had to love to be a journalist because the pay isn't good (especially in print, which I was in.) I didn't love it. I did it because I blew my knee out a couple of times in football in high school, turned down some small D3 offers to try to save my knee and figured sports journalism was my only way to stay close to sports still. Bad decision to base your future on.

Here are the approximate ingredients for the sweet/spicy chili. It does tend to be more an art than a science so no exact recipe.

3 types of meat (beef, pork and turkey) Chili powder, finely diced "stoplight" peppers, medium-sized onion (yellow or white), 1 can of pinto and one can of light chili beans, can of diced tomatoes, can of tomato sauce, a couple of handfuls of brown sugar, paprika, quite a bit of garlic, one or two diced jalapenos, salsa (if I have a small amount left in the bottom of a jar), Tony Chacharro's Creole seasoning

That cheese looks great but I don't feel like I need to impress the ladies right now. When I was putting up the Christmas lights on Sunday two of the neighbor ladies commented about how good I looked bending over on the porch roof. Yes. They were not being serious and were just hassling me which I fully deserve... still.

The tacos I am more worried about on the couch as I feel that, with chili, people will actually eat it at our island or at the table. People are inclined to eat tacos wherever.

Maybe I can give out satchels to everybody to put their empty bottles in so they don't have to get up to miss the game. the teenagers could occasionally collect and dump these satchels. The girl could probably do some clean up but the boy, when cleaning up the kitchen, would probably just make a bigger mess. The girl would also roll her eyes at me.

That is my kind of remedy.

I like how you talk about the girl and the boy like they are creatures of the wild, hahahaha.

Sometimes they are. The youngest girl and her friends are definitely creatures of the wild. We've already informed one of her friend's parents that they can not go to the same college. They are too funny.
