Fun fact:
"Criminal Minds" is set in Iowa tonight.
Episode title: "Hamelin".
Description: "Prentiss and The BAU team fly to Iowa to investigate the disappearance of three 10-year-old children who appear to have been abducted from their homes in the middle of the night, with surveillance video from a neighborhood park as their only lead to finding the children's whereabouts."

Seems like it might be somewhat inspired by Lyric Cook & Elizabeth Collins?
It wasn't.

So they are putting shingles on NOW? I'd never allow that - they won't seal down worth a darn, and the warranty won't be any good either.

With everyone overbooked you don't get to choose fair weather here in the Twin Cities. Been like that for the last 20 years. I won't do it for replacement but new constructions a different matter. Certainly won't do lightweight shingles. Mine are the heaver Timberline architecture relief ones and I know it was cold when they were placed, can't remember but think it was early winter. Now in their 16th year. Even survived the golf ball sized hail a fews years back. I was pretty amazed after walking the roof afterwords. Was expecting more than just a couple broken edges but that was about it.

The last three decades or so of planning and zoning have pushed these unlivable suburban lots....if a 6' setback is allowed, guess what? You get houses 12' apart! Wow, who knew? The enviro-crusaders who gravitate toward jobs in planning and zoning departments get to pat themselves on back that they are increasing density, but really what they have created is inhumane suburban hell with the worst of all worlds: neighborhoods where you still have to get into your subaru forester or Toyota Land Cruiser to drive everywhere to do anything with little pedestrian opportunities, yet you still have to listen to your neighbors bro-country cranked up on his deck where they are so close you can see the blackheads in their skin. This wraps around to many culprits.....

I just saw a commercial for "ship sticks" that will ship your golf clubs for your beautiful facebook-freindly golf vacation....It is a thing I guess. I thought I was in a hot-tub time machine to 1998.....but it is real. America is messed up.

Most of my neighborhood is on pretty decent sized lots, some fairly large. There are a handful of 40x120s that are grandfathered in. Neighbor is on one of those. The house next door to her was on two 40's, so 80x120 but they tore it down (it was trash) and since it was originally platted as 40z120 amd 40x120 they let them build two house, each on a 40. Kinda just an old grandfather in situation. I just wish they had mitigated the height by going with a flat roof.

As much as it could be a better design and as much my neighbor is going to hate it, it will increase the value of her property. The old landscape architect in me looked at the sun angles and at least reassured her that the new house will not shade out her electric English style garden.

How was it? How did they portray Iowans?
Not too badly. Iowans were portrayed as normal small-town folk, with gossip and kids too immersed in computers for their own good. "Hamelin" referred to an old fable. A little more detailed story-line:
Basically, a guy steals kids using hypnotic emails because of small town gossip. No kids were directly harmed (although one injured herself while in a trance state), and none of the stolen kids died.

Older subdivision with alleys? I love alleys.

LittleWx is going through major mommy withdrawal. Hopefully starting to get on a routine next week will help.

Just wanted you all to know that yesterday I went in for a routine physical and before I left I agreed to the first (of two) shingles shots this year. A little trepidation based on what I've heard and read here, but so far just a slight soreness when I rub that area of my arm. Hope that's the extent of the potential bad side effects. At least I didn't get hives.

Only two alleys in the whole neighborhood, maybe in the whole city and I live on one. Rare enough that substitute snow plow drivers don't know they are there and forget to plow them.

A) my sore arm lasted for almost a week, but sounds like I reacted a little more than you did
B) the shingles that I got were totally unrelated to the shot, and were probably a much milder version of what I would have had without immunization
C) NONE of that will prevent me from getting the second shot next month.

Good on you for getting immunized!

Does that mean you have a 1 in 6 chance to become autistic? Or what is supposed to happen to you when you get immunized again. I’m too old for the kid shots and too young for the codger shots.

Or is that why all the old folks are getting hepatitis? Or is that the clap? You guys did have that free era culture.

I not sure about any of this. One day I will see a doctor, probably come summer time. The dr neighbor still mows his lawn.

I've been debating bringing up getting tested for hep C with my doc. I had mono when I was 18 and had hepatitis along with it. From what I've been reading on it, it was a fairly common virus back then, and can remain in the body but inactive (like the varicella-zoster virus that causes chicken pox). It doesn't pop up with a new intense symptoms like shingles, but instead can quietly wreak havoc on your liver, and you don't even know it. Seems reasonable to check to make sure I'm not harboring it, ya know?

I got vaccinated against Hep A, B & C when I was supposed to go to India 10 years ago. I have no idea if those are for life or if you would need a booster at some point.

Go with papaLew and see if you can get a 2fer discount. Seriously, if you know you have had it, it would probably be prudent to at least get screened for it.
