Got some rock my world news today. I've alluded to what I do for work and alot in here know where but I work in the kitchen at Old Chicago in Ames.
Today on our calendar there was a last day but no name for the 18th of this month. I asked our gm who was opening manager today and he said it was his last day.
OC opened in summer of 05 and for awhile now we have been the last of the OG's. When talking to him I got emotional because well I'm a emotional type of person definitely got that from my mom.
Emotional for a couple reasons. Working closely with someone for 19 years you definitely develop a good relationship. He's the best boss/superior I've ever had so from that aspect it sucks.
The other reason and it's selfish but it's something that's always been in the back of my mind if this situation occurred is what it will mean for me.
Our GM basically leaves my schedule and everything up to me. I make the dough there so my schedule has always been flexible to suit me. Will that go away now.
Actually a third reason is what his leaving will do to future of our restaurant. A group out of Dubuque took over the Cedar Falls, Des Moines and Ankeny as well as us.
We are the only one still operating and I totally credit that to our GM as those other stores lead management wasn't the best.
As with most restaurants coming out of the pandemic keeping a fully staffed store has been a struggle especially with regard to keeping/getting quality managers.
Wonder without his leadership the Ames OC could end up in the in memoriam thread. I could see many of the few we do have leave because he's leaving.
OC has basically been my all my post college employment and scared at what might be in store.
I told him while sad and scared I understand and shocked he's made it this long with all the stuff he has to deal with as GM.
Sorry to bring down the thread but getting out has been therapeutic and know how much many in here care about me.
(((Hugs}}} to you, my friend.
Over the 30+ years I spent in the same job at ISU, I had 9 different bosses. Some were better than others. I was in much the same status as you - I knew what I was doing, they could count on me to get it done, and they mostly left me alone to do it.

With any new boss there are growing pains. You don't know their quirks, and they don't know yours. Do your job the way you have been, keep communication open with the new GM, and like others said, keep your chin up. You have value. We know that, and you should too.
Good luck - we're here for you when you need to vent (or celebrate!).
