I had 1.25" in the gauge at supper time last night. Rained off and on all night, still sprinkling this AM. Looking at the radar, we should be wet pretty much all day. My lawn is gasping in relief.

My BILs had their machinery out and ready to go yesterday, looks like that will have to wait at least until next week.

I feel sorry for the farmers in the derecho path. They'll have to clean that mess out of the fields, but there isn't likely much to salvage crop-wise. Ugh.

Wherever I go, there I am.

But how much rain did you get? ;)

Saw the forecast on Monday Morning and turned the Nest over to Heat/Cool. Hasn't run either yet this week but today will definitely be the day with it down to 70 in the house.

2.3 of rain so far nice that we're getting it, would have been better in Aug however beggers can't be choosers. So far I've resisted the furnace.

I am surprised more of it wasn't chopped into silage already. Maybe they can't do that due to crop insurance requirements...

Got to have something to feed it to, most those guys don't have facilities to put cattle in. The ones that have the facilities probably had their silage needs spoken for already. Plus on a already hard yr you would have to to have a pretty understanding lender to take on a cattle note also.

I suppose I am living in the past when a lot of farmers had both crops and livestock. That doesn't really happen much anymore, does it.

Not exactly sure.

Yep. Very few have both, or if they do have cattle (only cattle would take silage) it isn't enough to chomp down a quarter section of crap corn.

I'm afraid for a lot of folks it's salvage what you can, take your crop insurance payment and regroup for next yr. Throw in the low prices on what is left there isn't a lot of joy in Mudville, right now.

With that much of the crop gone, I thought corn prices would buoy a little. Was there that much of a glut?

Ethanol plants are shut down all over the country. Largest carryover in a long time on hand. Brazil currency tanking and making SA grain cheaper in comparison. Trade war with China just starting to loosen (why you see life in the market, not because of the storm).

Told DH no furnace last night. What do I hear when I get up this morning? Grr.
In other news, I'm so glad I have this site and thread to confabulate. (first meaning, please!) https://www.wordgenius.com/words/confabulate
Lew knows better. He can add blankets...or put more clothes on. :D

Side note - I can sleep for 3-4 hours in a row when the room is cold enough (as opposed to 1.5-2.5), and that makes me happy. Him too, because I'm not moving around to find the cool spots nearly as much.

La la la la (hands over eyes) TMI! Not really, just wanted to give you a pause. I would have said "give you a hard time" but we all know what would follow that.

So I probably shouldn't tell you that he loves to build up the fire in the fireplace when we're watching TV in the living room...
