Peyton Manning got in on name recognition alone.

peyton's stats are very comparable to last years fwiw

but considering that it's taken him far more pass attempts to achieve those similar stats, it's clear he's having somewhat of a down year. He's on pace to have about 100 more pass attempts than he has in any previous year in his career.

IMO, guys like Flacco and Cassel are having better seasons.

No kidding. This is why I'm not an advocate of fan voting.

Exactly who should have been in there over Peyton?

Matt Cassell? No
David Garrard? No
Vince Young? Hell no
Colt McCoy/Seneca/Delhomme? No
Matt Schaub? No (but close)
Joe Flacco? No
Kyle Orton? No
Mark Sanchez? No
Ben Roethlisberger? Missed 4 games, so of course he wasn't going to make it.
Jason Cambell? No
Chad Henne? Shouldn't even be in the league.
Carson Palmer? No
Ryan Fitzpatrick? No

The only 2 you could make a case for are Schaub and Roethlisberger. Schaub really hasn't done better than Peyton, and Big Ben was suspended. Manning had a bad 3 week stretch. Other than that he has been the same old Peyton. However, I do agree with fan voting. A couple years ago the Cowboys had 12 pro bowlers and that is only because they are ''Americas'' team. Vince Young for god sake was in the pro bowl last season. Pro Bowl should be about the best players at the positions for the season.

And both of those teams have better(healthy) wide receivers. and they have run games.

Oops - XBOX has it covered -- Peyton has a bunch of folks just wishing him to fall off and hunting for reasons.

If you're going to make a case for Matt Schaub, I think you can make a case for Matt Cassel too. Comparable or better stats in almost every category.

What makes you say this --- his numbers are almost the same as last year's??? Or are you carrying some type of bias?

last year's numbers don't mean anything, because it's not last year anymore. Or did you think they carried over?

He's 6th in the conference in QB rating. He's got 31 TDs, but it's not a huge gap between him and Flacco/Cassel, especially considering he's got more picks than they do, combined. The only thing he can really hang his hat on is his passing yardage, which is wonderful, but his yards per attempt are only good enough for 10th in the conference.

If you don't agree, that's fine, but there is plenty of evidence to support the argument that guys like Flacco and Cassel deserved the pro bowl nod over him. Since it is a poll voted on by fans, and that Peyton is one of the most exposed athletes in the league, it's my opinion that his name recognition was a chief reason why he made the pro bowl over the other guys.

Was nice to see Hester, Briggs, Urlacher, and Peppers get in. Not sure anyone else on the team deserved the pro bowl but those four are no brainers.
