going 3-9 and 2-10 and being one of the worst teams of the country probably blocked that more. Also having no offense or defensive identity.
At least with a two win season the staff can sell playing time. MM has never had a chance to recruit a class to ISU, or Blaney or Ayeni. They are trying to form that identity. This handcuffs them. I have been one of the most vocal about Defensive recruiting on this board but Leaths comments don't help them either.
After Leaths comments now the coaches have to answer a lot more questions to recruits about the long term that they shouldn't have to answer if Leath shuts his trap. His comments directly undermine what JP said two weeks ago and sends a mixed message.
Great Leaders let their top managers do their jobs and give guidance behind closed doors, not undermine them publicy to put themselves in the spotlight. The notion of JP being too cozy with CPR is also a bogus reason to make his remarks publicly because Leath has the power to fire them both this time next year if he so chooses so why go public with it? That doesn't add up.
I would say this if I was a supporter of the staff or if I wasnt. I am a supporter of ISU. The timing and depth of his comments were not well thought out, and I now question Leaths Leadership ability much more than CPR and JP's. That scares me as an Alum when the Captain has poor judgement.
