I don't mind the comments one bit; if he comes out and says "We are behind CPR 100%" then half of CF revolts against him for "being satisfied with mediocrity" or some ****. Classic damned if you do, damned if you don't situation where a person in a position of leadership becomes an easy target for those who enjoy criticizing.

Leath is a leader. Leaders make the tough decisions. Some people don't like that.
Amen. He's made a lot more tough decisions in his short time here than Geoffrey ever did. He's embarrassed by the football program, and said so. Not any different than what he's said to the bigwigs - who want answers - over the past two months...

....behind Closed Doors fine. You can be a Leader without putting yourself above the organization you are leading and weakening it in the short run by making the comment. Everyone at ISU, inside it, already knows this. Captain Obvious statement and he Publicizes it! DUH! Beyond Stupid to make a public statement for all the world outside of Iowa to hear. Good leaders think about ramifications before they say it. What measurable benefit does this serve in the heart of recruiting season?

I read that as Leath and Pollard are in accord, and preparing to dump Rhoads in a year.

He may be the leader but Pollard is the AD and he already stated that he is backing Rhoads. So now he is also slapping Pollard in the face by making these comments. These comments should not of been to the public, these kind of comments should be made to the AD. In his short time here, Leath is making some very questionable calls and decisions.

Seems really odd, as I've heard CPR was already told by his boss that it's bowling next year or out. Obviously Leath would know about that conversation, so why come out now and make public comments to the same effect?

I wonder what Leath would think of Rhoads if he had never kicked Coe off the team. No doubt Rhoads should be on the hot seat but Leath isn't exactly lighting the world on fire there in Beardshear.

I have no idea what you were going to say nor what you are trying to say

LB stands for LIBERTY BOWL. I am still bitter for the Cyclone family that all spent their sow money on showing up in Memphis and this coaching staff laying a big stinking, steaming turd on the field.
But beyond that.....(I am willing to give a head coach I like another break even then)....beyond that he made NO changes at all. Nothing. Nada. He put being a good 'ol boy coach ahead of the institution. Because of that, I am amazed then and now that anyone can see that this is all just wasting time. I have a much better physique than Steve Deace....and I just might bet that I would do a headstand in spandex if this program could generate a bowl game next year. Please note that Illinois went to a bowl game........think about that. Toledo went to a bowl game too. Why waste another year?

I don't disagree with any thing you say here but please stop crying about all that money we spent driving to Memphis. In the grand scheme of things, a bowl game 6 hours driving distance from Ames should not even register on the investment scale for a Power 5 football program. Sadly, many think it should which is half the problem.

No problem with what he said. The equivalent of our conference's "public reprimand". I wish JP came out with some sterner words after the season when it was very obvious that the only reason that PR was being retained was the 10 year contract.

And doing that publicly accomplishes what for the improvement of our football program? God knows recruits would love to walk in to an environment of not only a lack of winning but also one where they'll be working with a new coaching staff in a year.

Yes. I think Leath wants to distance himself from the "all is well, buckle up your seatbelts" crap that he has had to listen to JP and CPR say during the Tailgate Tour stops the last two years. Our president is saying to fans, "I know you're not stupid - the current product is crap." It's refreshing, and to me, serves as a jump-start to a more urgent off-season for the football program.
