I should have posted this poll before attempting to start the "news only" thread. I'm curious if there are enough people who like the idea, to keep pursuing it.

The idea is to add a single dedicated thread for posting recent news, so it is easier to find than if it were buried in a mega-thread. The "news only" thread would not contain additional discussion on the news...instead the discussion would remain in all the other threads just like always. Think of it as a headline ticker, but it is broader than just official news releases. It would also include Cyclone-related Twitter posts, links to online articles about the Cyclones, etc. Just a convenient place to quickly highlight recent events, without the clutter of off-topic discussions. The thread would certainly need some moderating, since we all know there will be obstructionists trying to make it fail. The exact rules and mechanics for the thread can be determined later. I'm just seeing if there is any support for the general concept.

(1) I like the idea, and I think it could work if the Mods and Admins are supportive.
(2) I like the idea, but I don't see how it would ever work on CycloneFanatic.
(3) I don't like the idea. It won't work, and it doesn't do anything to enhance CycloneFanatic.
(4) I don't really care either way. It doesn't affect me.

Not sure if this still happens but stories from cyclones.com use to get posted on here and those threads could not be commented on. If the article posted had any importance there would be at least 1 other thread discussing the topic. So in the end there would be 2+ threads about one topic and one of those threads was mostly worthless.

This idea is a little better as there would only be 1 news thread but if the "news" being posted is of any value there would be a second thread posted for discussing it. And that 2nd thread would have a link to the news story too. So the news only thread would only be valuable for random topics that aren't normally discussed on CF already.

I don't have interest in scrolling through posts of news stories on squirrels water skiing to see if there is a post of the latest news on football ticket sales or the plans to wear white helmets for the homecoming game.

Edit: Didn't read your posts to see that it would be geared towards ISU only stuff. Either way I wouldn't want to scroll through a news only thread to find stories that interest me when I can just scroll through the list of threads in different forums quickly to find what I want to look at.

Can't vote because I'm on mobile.

I don't think it's a good idea. Let each "news" item be discussed in its own thread.

Dude, didn't you already get your answer???
No, I didn't get my answer, because I don't think many supporters would voice their opinions on that other thread. An anonymous poll is the better way to go. Clearly I should have started with the poll.

I will gladly drop it if the poll shows people don't like it.

Don't give up so easily. If it is a good idea, it is a good idea, even if you generate a lot of negative responses, especially from folks who are on CF all day. Your idea is probably most meaningful for the folks who only come to CF for short periods of time and may not have any noticed this discussion (or rebel-discussion on the other thread).

CF is a community, but not a democracy. It is a benevolent dictatorship led by CW. You only have to convince him!

So basically you want this:

http://www.cyclones.com/

No, we also want real news that comes from reputable news sources who use Twitter and other news sources. Most of the stuff that gets posted on cyclones.com is old news that has been whitewashed for PR purposes. Still important, but not what we are talking about here.

No. Awful Idea. Mobile vote for No.

Drop this. Go get a subscription to All cyclones. There is less discussion there.

You're on the right track, but that is still a pretty limited list of news updates. Plus it is totally dependent on when Chris has time to write an article and get it posted. My idea would leverage the entire CF community to get a larger quantity of newsworthy information posted more quickly. Granted, everyone's definition of "newsworthy" is different, but I think most of us can agree that cat GIF's and Spiderman memes are not newsworthy.

Forums are for discussion. What is this, Nazi Germany? You'll never silence me!
Discussion would only be prohibited on that specific thread. I'm not sure how people are equating this with censorship. It is simply a method of sorting and categorizing information to make it easier to find quickly.
