I'll take 5-0 and a 1.97 ERA over the last 10 games as my "Wild Card" pitcher any day of the week.
Harden is a wild card cause it always ends up on the pen.
Those five no decisions don't worry you at all?
CrossCyed gets it...
If the problem is the pen, how does that make Harden the "wild card"?
Look Balls, I'll conceed that you lost more baseball knowledge in your last haircut, than I'll ever have.
But I just don't see it. What more, I'm trying to figure how Harden isn't #2 right now, if not #1 - although Dempster has been nails in the Friendly Confines.
If there's any question about Harden, it's really just what is left in is arm and is he completely healthy after his little layoff. But statistically and recent performance wise, I can find little fault. Like I said, his last two games were no decisions. They were also meaningless. If I take anything out of them, it's that he gave up 11 walks across 10 innings. But still only 3 hits and 3 earned runs.
So I'm not putting alot of stock in his getting run out of games to the detriment of the bullpen.
For discussion, I think if anybody on the staff is a wildcard, clearly it's Big Z. That's true just about any game, second half of this season. He's certainly Jeckel and Hyde.
We can throw our closer in that discussion as well. I need a paper bag to breathe into when Woody comes out for the 9th.
I believe Harden is #3 only because of Z's ego. Plus I would rather have Z throw at home and Harden throw on the road.
Just heard now from a good source that it might be Cotts as the odd man out with Howry and Gaudin in...
The Cubs really haven't had a problem scoring runs all season... They did play a lot of right handers in 162 games... I think...Peter Gammons picks the Dodgers, mainly because the Dodgers top 3 starters are right handed against the Cubs heavily right-handed hitting line-up. But the Cubs have the home field advantage and it should be a great series.
boo cubbies!
