Was it Suko Thai? That was about 7 - 9 years ago. I would get the angry chicken - you could get it "pi$$ed off" (the hottest), which I would commonly do.

"One pissed off-chicken" - it was excellent.

Do you remember the days when Cocost on Welsh used to bring out the food while it was still sizzling on the hot plates ... Muey disappointed-o when I went there last year and they had quit doing that :sad9cd:

They stopped doing that??? I haven't been there in three or four years, I guess... That was one of the best features of the place!!

Best Chinese food in town (in the sketchiest-looking restaurant) is at Chinese Homestyle Cooking ("CHC" for the regulars). Their moo goo is just awesome, and only about $5. The owner is really nice. Le's Vietnamese is awesome, too - their cream cheese wontons are awesome.

LIAR! The best is the Gyro Cart Man. They even give you shiny half-dollar for change!

DUDE, super dog man gives you half dollars too! I've got over $40 in half dollars. Actually, super dog and gyro stand are run by the same guy, I think.

This thread is awesome. Lots of gastronomical memories that I haven't dragged out and dusted off for a long, long time. Good stuff for sure.

What about that Thai place that was up above welch avenue station? Tep Thai or something? They had a dish called "Angry catfish" that would light your rear on fire. This stuff was soo good, but you could feel it burning it's way through your body for the next 24 hours. What did they spice that with, battery acid?

speaking of firey a$$holes the Pit had a pizza called "hot stuff" or something with italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, jalapeneos and a spiceier than normal sauce - it would light you up

the worst ever was after eating the "blazing" wings at BWW here in CR. I have never been brought to tears in the bathroom before ... it wouldn't stop burning ...:no6xn:

Where is that located? I usually go to King Buffet (pronounced Buff-it), just so I can hear them say "Pessi, Cork, Spite, Mount Doo". I may have to club my girlfriend over the head and take her there tomorrown night, figuratively speaking. (I'd never take her to a restaraunt! ;) )

The guys I work with like to go to King Buffet just to walk in the door and have the lady scream "HOW MANY?!?!"

It's right between the Kwik Stop and Flying Burrito, right across the street from Taco Bell. Seriously - it's a little weird-looking. There are these old pictures of roses on a piano (at which I always make the same "tulips on your organ" joke to the husband because I'm mature like that), it's got a vaguely cowboy feel, and I think it's in a former nail salon. It's clean, great food, and cheap, though!! We're moving to Nevada later this month - I don't know what I'm going to do w/out CHC!!

Fun fact - bring in your own soda. Every drink they have there is warm, and possibly old. I think I saw a TAB on the counter.

Did anybody ever have a 400 level class with Dr Venkata? I think that was his name, he was the head of the EE department for a while ... anyways, on the last day of class we had presentations to give for 15 mins a piece, so class was really long (4-5 hours)

Afterwards he took the entire class out to Pizza Pit for beer and pizza (we were all Seniors) ... about half the class only stayed for 15 mins, but the good Doctor left half a dozen of us with an open tab and we made use of it until they kicked us out at close ... I loved that class.

Whenever I go into KB, I just get flashbacks of the Chinese restaraunt from "A Christmas Story" running in my head. "Deck the hawws wiff bows of horry, fa ra ra rara, ra ra ra ra."

Re: King Buffet (and all other buffets):

I've got to admit that, when it comes to my food, I'm kind of prissy. I'm not about anything else, but I don't like germs. I don't eat leftovers (for the most part) because of this. So, paying $7.99 for all-you-can-eat crab legs kind of creeps me out - crab is expensive!! If you can get these by the bulk, where in the world are they from??

You know Angie, I can walk outside my house and look at that building if I wanted to. Also, Nevada isn't too far from CHC, I'm sure a Saturday Night date could be arranged for CHC.

EDIT: Dammit Angie, you just completely ruined my KB experience. I liked my bliss about the food business. Well, since we're ruining food joints now, I know some people that work at Wendy's here in Ames that pee in the pickle jar.

Perfect location for you - walking distance!! :yes4lo:

You're right, though - I'm going to have to work on that for a Saturday night date. The upside is that I could probably wear pajama pants and a tank top, and nobody would even turn their head. :rofl8yi:

EDIT - ew!! I knew some former McDonald's employees (different town) who would employ urinal cakes in the food-making rituals for particularly unpleasant customers. I am totally not going to Wendy's ever again, though - thanks for the tip!!!

Pretty tough to go wrong with fried cream cheese wontons...anything that is both fattening by itself and fried is a sure winner (hopefully you've also tried fried Snicker bars and fried Twinkies!).

I love hot food, Suko Thai almost killed me! That place was great! And painful!:biggrin9gp:
