Pizza in West Des Moines (area)

Personally, when it comes to pizza, I believe there's an inverse relationship between the attractiveness of the dining space and the quality of the pizza. My two favorite pizza places are Leaning Tower (Ankeny) and Polito's (Boundarant), but neither one has a very attractive or very spacious dining area.

I tried Polito's for the first time last weekend. I had the sausage and it was pretty good.

If you don't care what the place looks like or what animal may have chowed on some of the cheese the night before. Then you can't go wrong with La Pizza House on the Southside of Des Moines. They have great pizza but the place is a disaster. Also probably the best sausage sandwiches in the World.

I can' t believe that five pages into this thread and no mention of Marino's. I have been to most of the places mentioned in the Des Moines area and none are close to Marino's. It is about three blocks East of J.Benjamin's on Franklin. It is small local restaurant run by a Italian couple from Southern Italy.

Having lived in Italy for nine years it is as close as you can get to the real thing. Hands down the best pizza.

I know this is a chain, but I love Casey's breakfast pizza! And you can get it Westside, southside, Ames, or any town in Iowa.
Say what you want about Casey's, you'll seldom get jipped when it comes to cheese...

Angelo's is the best in WDM and best as far as I'm concerned in the city. Great crispy thin crust with Graziano sausage and fresh ingredients. Their sauce is tangy and doesn't taste sweet or pastey like the chains or the Tavern. Give it a try...you'll love it!
