Picasa is dead. What photo management software do you use?

I've been using Picasa for years but learned yesterday Google is putting it out to pasture in March.

What photo management software do you use? I see that Win 10 has a built-in app but it seems very basic compared to Picasa. It might fit the bill, we'll see.

GIMP. It's free and it's just editing, not album making and sharing software. Was close enough to an old limited function Photoshop I had years ago for me to use. I rarely use the layers or fancy stuff, just resizing, cropping, adjusting, sharpen and unsharpen mask. Tons of functions more arty people can use.

I am going to start getting into photography as I just got a Sony a5000. We are going to the Monterrey Aquarium and then driving up to Seattle.

I am going to use flickr. I have used befunky to do some editing, but have not really done too much. If there is better than flickr I would love to hear it.

Is there a desktop app for flicker? In addition to editing I'm looking for something that will also keep my photo files organized on my hard drive.

My organization of images is weak. Tons of folders sort organized by subject/time but sometimes I have a heck of time finding something, especially old images I have scanned from slide or print.

I love google but my god they do some dumb things. They get rid of software that works nearly perfect yet Apple keeps pushing out that piece of crap iTunes.

This sucks. I do some minimal organizing of my photos in Windows (like folders for each year and major event, like a vacation) but I use Picasa for tagging of each person and some basic touchups. I'm guessing there's no way for me to import that into another tool. I haven't used Google Photos but I'm guessing I could take hours upon hours and re-tag everyone again, which will be great until Google comes along and migrates to something new and shuts that down in five years.

But I'd keep an eye on Lifehacker and other similar sites. They'll probably be coming out with some suggested alternatives and how-to stories soon.

Found I already had Windows Photo Gallery on my PC. Going to give that a try. Saw some reviews that rated it just behind Picasa so should be at least decent.

I always liked Lighteoom.

Lightroom is very, very good if you're serious about photo editing. The $10/month Cloud subscription is awesome, and you also get Photoshop.
