Campbell and the staff have made it very clear the job is Joel's.

UNLESS Park or someone else blows them away. I think it's a fair way to go about things. Especially to maintain the confidence of your starting qb.

What does it mean for a starting qb to have confidence?

It means he feels like he's not getting pulled at the first mistake he makes. Or that he's not pulled just because he happens to have one poor game. It means he believes in himself, in part because he thinks his coaches also believe in him as the leader of the team.

Of course they said that, Noland wasn't going to beat him out as a true freshman. Park wasn't on campus yet. Sure Lanning has the head start, but do you really think if Park is better and ready to play it's still going to be Lannings? I hope the staff isn't that dumb.

Yeah it's the rushside DE. Which is not the type of LB that were lacking in depth.

It's a pass rushing LB/DE end. He's supposed to be one of your best players on defense, and athletic. He lines up wider than a normal DE because he's usually smaller, and to get a better angle. Look at Clemons for Seattle, college LB.

Von Miller is sort of the same idea. He lines everywhere.

Re: PERSONELL: Jacob Park, young LB notes

Why would Lanning deserve to start? It's not like he won the conference. How many games has he won? The best QB deserves to start. Lanning needs to earn it if he's the guy.

But what if he gets beat out and then decides to transfer to So Miss. That will hurt our depth at the position. Who cares who earned the spot in the coaches eyes.

I'm ol' school and prefer Derrick Thomas from the Chiefs.

Maybe being confident in the backup will let them take the leash off the Joeldozer a bit. I doubt it, but I love to see him run over DBs.

Lanning will enter the season as the starter, it's up to him to keep it. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Park gets to the point where he's at least getting his own package.

Typically I don't agree with playing more than one QB, but typically you don't have a more talented back up with completely different skill sets.

The way things have been going the past few years, Park will get his shot. No need to have Lanning looking over his shoulder. The prior staff did an unbelievably bad job of handling QBs.

Little too early to say Park is more talented.

Last year Toledo's starting QB passed 403 times, the back-up 7. The starting QB rushed 26 times for 16 total yards last year. Doesn't look like Campbell is much for alternating QBs or running QBs.

Was that because of the coach's philosophy, or because he was playing to the QB's style/strength?
