Per ESPN...

Good upgrade from Tubby...Penny has done well at both the high school and AAU level as a coach...three in a row state champs.

Will be interesting to see who he pulls in for recruits.

I guess we'll see if he is an upgrade from Tubby. The lack of D1 coaching experience would scare me if I was a Memphis fan. With that said, I didn't like the Hoiberg hire when it was announced.

Replaced a good coach with a good recruiter. Bold move Cotton, let's see if it works out for them.

Is Tubby really a good coach anymore? Nine years in the B12 and B10 without a single winning conference record would seem to suggest otherwise

Definitely a short term "Wow" factor with the ticket buyers and recruits...but will it be sustainable? Maybe...maybe not. History has not been kind for the majority of this type of hires.
