Well written article, you could tell something wasn't right at the end of that season. Better days appear to be ahead for the program though, glad Fred is back!

Too bad shirley wasn't more of a leader himself. That team could have used a counter-balance to tinsley. Paul could have filled that role but failed to.

Given how bad the team chemistry was, I'm surprised they were even able to win the Big 12. My guess is everyone put all their issues aside during the regular season, and things must have reached a boiling point starting in the postseason.

Wow......things make a bit more sense in that context. I still don't think Paul has or had a thick enough skin (and I like the guy more than some here), but saying anything remotely like that is tough. I agree that team chemistry is everything, so there is a ring of truth to that story.

I had high school coaches say stuff worse than that. Not sure what the big deal is.

True that. My sophomore defensive line coach in high school yelled at a kid "My **** gets hard faster than you get off the line. And I'm OLD!!"

Yeah, glad that wasn't directed at me.

I haven't read anything else he's ever written, but writing about how things went down is BS. ISU fans are well aware of the fact that the end of that season probably had more going on than we knew and LE and JT's life skills were suspect, but to throw them under the bus 10 years after the fact is lame.

I guess just writing a good article about this years current ISU team was too much to ask for.

My problem is I just laugh at stuff like that.

I disagree with people thinking this article is poorly timed and is just digging up bad memories.

For me: 1) It makes me appreciate our team/coach even more
2) Makes me even more confident Coach Fred will work out in the long haul
3) Most importantly: makes me more confident about our chances tomorrow because of his comment about what it takes to win in March.

Thanks for the great read Paul.

ESPN loved him until they fired him... Did the RE-REGISTER post his blog about him advising Haitians to “use a condom once in a whileâ€￾ and stop building “shack-towns.â€￾ ??? Maybe they did but shouldn't they think twice about posting something of his?

Without question, the biggest moron in the sports world identified himself earlier this week in the form of former NBA player and current boob blogger Paul Shirley.

I don't know, that isn't that bad, it's a motivational situation fueled by probably what is frustration on the coaches part. The LE case seems a little different to me. When things deteriorate over the course of a season and the night before the biggest game of the season your coach says, “I’m sick of coaching all of you. I can’t wait for this to be over.” In a hotel room, outside of practice, that can really be demoralizing. It's almost like seeing your coach at Target with his family one night and he tells you how much you suck.

Shirley should have thicker skin, but as others have said, LE was clearly a train wreck waiting to happen.

I appreciate the guys honesty. In some strange reason I'm glad that's how the season ended...that it happened that way. I always knew LE rode that team to hard but in some respect I just thought Hampton got lucky...got us on a super down night. Turns out that team deserved to get beat...that kind of makes me feel better.

I absolutely agree with this. I love having Fred as our coach. I love how he conducts himself, how he relates to the players, and that he is the bleeping MAYOR.

Apples and oranges...LE didn't say stuff like this. This is funny and the coach knew it. LE said truly hatefull and disturbing things.

Is Paul Shirley a dsm register contributor now? Does he have an independent blog and why didn't the register post a link?

Why is his perspective of value at this moment?

Stop with the re register, it makes no sense and is beyond lame.

Ok... But what do you think about the register rolling out a paul shirley piece on the eve of isu's first round game?

Should a accredited paper like the register post the "boob blooger's" views?
