Pat Downey Taking "Official Visit" to Iowa

It's not very often I have a source, but I do here, and what has been printed about Downey in the press isn't even the half of it.

Did he ever make it to Iowa? I just looked at their roster and didn't see him on there so I am guessing not.

He's wrestling unattached and I think rumors were he might suit up for them for the first time this weekend. I think he has some issue with eligibility that he wouldn't get cleared up until second semester.

Flo had a blurb in their article about Iowa yesterday. Who the hell knows with that guy.

Now potentially add in Downey, who was an All-American at 197lb in 2016. He would take over for Mitch Bowman at 184lb. Downey has posted pictures on social media of him being accepted into a graduate program at Iowa, and the semester has now started. He wasn't listed in the match notes for this weekend, which may just mean his weight has not yet been certified.

In true Downey fashion, he never actually wrestled unnattached. Something always came up to prevent him from wrestling.

I really was going to be surprised if he would have his 1st match against #2 Myles Martin.

He did finally show up in the U of I directory sometime since Tuesday (I looked earlier in the week and he wasn't there, looked just now and he is) but isn't in the OPC on Track or on the roster on HawkeyeSports. But presumably just getting registered for classes was the big hangup, so maybe he will finally take the mat for Iowa.

Has to graduate from ISU before he can wrestle at Iowa. Needed to graduate in December.

I fully expect him to be eligible and wrestle for Iowa the rest of this season.

I give about a 1% chance that he actually completes anything starting the day after nationals.

I know they used to have basketball classes that basketball players would take. One question on the final was, how many points is a three point basket worth. I assume there is a wrestling class also.
