Took us 40 min to get out tonight, and we left with 2 min to go. Is there a reason they no longer open the gates from C5 to the south anymore? It never used to take this long, but every game is a mess anymore. Saw 2 cars just hit other cars purposely to try and push them out of the way. And then people just started driving over the grass to get out.

Were we that far ahead with 2 minutes left?

Anyway yeah it seems to have got worse. Is the Cy town construction to blame at all?

I’ve wondered the same thing on closing the South exit of C5. Makes zero sense. I exited C5 that way last year and turned right and crossed Beech, as did almost all others that exited that way. IMO, this reduced the traffic load on University and helped with clearing all of the C lots.

Seems like punishment for leaving early.

Sorry to hear that!

I parked in public parking B3 and got out instantly. Not even trying to be funny, might be the fastest I’ve ever gotten out.

There's something about the way the lots are designed now that things are off. We left well after the game was finished (i.e. stayed in our seats until the end and made a stop at the bathroom with a slow 7 year old) and we were stuck in C5 for a LONG time. No one seemed to know how to get out or what way to go. I am interested in seeing the parking lots in day light because it shouldn't be as confusing as it is.

Last year our pass was for D4 and that section is a god damn gem because it has it's own exit out to University. Once we finally did start moving, we headed over to D4 and went out that way, I'd recommend going that way if possible.

Picked up a C1 pass from someone at work. We were like 20 ft from the bottom of the steps and it took like 1 minute to get out when we left. Parking is gonna be even more annoying now that I know how the other folks live.

It’s been bad for a long time not just this year IMO. I always park near the Jacobsen to facilitate an early exit.

As far as leaving the game early, would have never considered it prior to having kids, but I can’t get my elementary aged kids home at 11pm on a weeknight. We left at 2 min mark and got home to north Ankeny at 9:40. I suspect this would have been 11pm if we waited. Hate that I do this, but it’s the way it has to be with the parking lots.

It was 40 minutes before I could get out of my parking spot let alone the lot. They need to do something otherwise Hilton will be half empty after that 4 minute media timeout.

CyTown was not designed with traffic or pedestrian flow in mind. It’s basically a horizontal parking garage with each lot down to 1 or 2 exit points.

I have fond memories of parking in the far SW corner and then at the buzzer sprinting out there and making a quick getaway through colonial village.

I wonder what is going on? You would they would have an operations meetings on how to get outbound parking flow more efficient. They really need to do better otherwise if the fan experience of going there is a pain in the @ss less fans will show, especially those that drive from Des Moines or further.

I know it'd be a big undertaking, but you mean to tell me a college full of engineers can't engineer a better way for traffic to flow for football & basketball? When they're already tearing everything up for CyTown is the perfect time to do so, too. Need to adopt some NFL practices - have certain streets that only flow one direction for an hour after games, feel like that would solve many of the issues. Minimize the red lights on University & it'll speed it up a ton.

Not exactly sure.

Now remember, the DOT and/or city have to approve things. My local county won't allow field drives if you have one within 1000 feet on that road. Like you are going to see vehicles flying out of the field if there are 2 entrances within an eighth of a mile of each other.
