Parking lots after games.

Took us 40 min to get out tonight, and we left with 2 min to go. Is there a reason they no longer open the gates from C5 to the south anymore? It never used to take this long, but every game is a mess anymore. Saw 2 cars just hit other cars purposely to try and push them out of the way. And then people just started driving over the grass to get out.
C5 cannot exit south?!?! WTF?!?! Good to know. I have not been to a game yet, but I usually park right by that south exit.

I know it'd be a big undertaking, but you mean to tell me a college full of engineers can't engineer a better way for traffic to flow for football & basketball? When they're already tearing everything up for CyTown is the perfect time to do so, too. Need to adopt some NFL practices - have certain streets that only flow one direction for an hour after games, feel like that would solve many of the issues. Minimize the red lights on University & it'll speed it up a ton.

We thought part of the problem was no one seemed to know whether they should exit their lot to the east or west. I think even having arrows in the actual lots would help.

And I do think daylight will help. I’m not sure if the C lots are the same as last year since I was in D4, but things just seem quite a bit different.

Football games have been AWFUL this year if you're in A or B lots. You have to turn west. I usually scoot out to the north via Stange but it takes about 3 years to get through that light by MWL.

They didn't have near the parking staff for KState and people kind of did what they wanted and it honestly seemed to go significantly faster than any other other game and they opened up that road south of hilton so you could go east out of that side.

It was bad last night. There was a point I didn’t move an inch for 15 min and realized it was because a single truck was attempting to go the opposite way of flow. He held up a whole portion of the lot alone.

Another participant in the C5 nightmare last night. The gate onto Jack Trice Way needs to be opened up. I don't remember any issues like last night when I parked there last season.

Yea, I think closing the C5 gate is the issue . Not sure why it’s been closed this bball season. Also a few people trying to turn against traffic

I wonder what is going on? You would they would have an operations meetings on how to get outbound parking flow more efficient. They really need to do better otherwise if the fan experience of going there is a pain in the @ss less fans will show, especially those that drive from Des Moines or further.
While I agree with what you are saying, this is the trend of all college athletics. Essentially the collective mantra is "**** you fans, pay more. And if you don't like something, maybe you will get special privileges, but only if you pay more. A LOT more."

Until the fans revolt, not a damn thing will be done with the fans in mind.

So much this. There is no reason why especially after football traffic on university should ever stop moving especially south of south 16th or mortensen.

That gate was open last year and allowed all of C4 and C5 west sides to empty much quicker. It's barricaded off now so you are forced east. If they could open that once the game starts all the problems would be solved. I am going to email the athletic dept today and ask that. I encourage others to do the same, just be nice.

I hate to give away my secret, but I parked in the intramural lots (kitty corner to D5), and it is always so easy to leave. Turn right onto S 4th and make your way to South Duff via S Grand and SE 16th. I left after the final horn, stopped in the bathroom on the way out, and was on S 4th within 2 minutes of getting to my car.

Not having the center aisles (roads on each side of the old tent row) was always going to make flushing cars out a lot slower.

We only get to a couple of basketball games a year, but might have to consider parking on campus like we do for football. East parking deck probably not full and an easy walk.

Is the C5 gate barricaded by fence/chain or by wooden easily moveable barricade?
Because if I’m sitting there for 45 mins and not moving, I’m bringing these next game. Sorry JP, my sleep is more important than a $5 lock. Fix the problem and open up more exits or lose fan attendance.
