This is a concept, an alliance, that I've long favored. With the P12 being so weak, perhaps now's the time it will gain favor? It potentially would solve some scheduling and TV issues. Luring ASU and Arizona to the B12 is also noteworthy.

“This alliance of 22 universities from the Great Plains to the West Coast would provide the vital content of big-time football games that dovetail nicely with the new developing platforms of information.”

Wefald’s proposal calls for all 30 of the Big 12’s non-conference games and for 30 of the Pac-12’s 36 out-of-league games to be played against each other.

The matchups would be spread evenly across the season (10 per month) with the winners of each conference meeting at the end of the regular season for a championship game, which would rotate between the Rose Bowl and AT&T Stadium.

Gee called the proposal “brilliant,’’ according to Wefald, but declined to comment.

We're better off until OU gets a B10 or SEC invite. And not looking at advancing the model but rather going to the cave is a bad strategy for any management group, see Sears. ISU and K-State are amongst those most at risk here and should be supportive of ideas that might strengthen the B12.

PAC 12 is a sinking ship...let 'er sink and dig up the buried treasure after the oil slick clears. Don't throw them a lifeline...you only reduce yourself to their level.

Oh my gosh, being reduced to the level of Stanford, Washington, and USC. God forbid seeing UCLA in Hilton.

The PAC 12 is garbage. When the Big 12 dissolves, the Big 10 will pluck a few, the SEC will pluck a few, the ACC will pluck 1 or 2 and the PAC 12 will get a few leftovers.

Baylor and Kansas State are the two most vulnerable programs to getting relegated to the MWC or some other smaller conference so it is understandable they are looking for a host to leech onto.

ISU and Kansas will slide into the Big 10 very smoothly.

I think it's far more likely to see the Pac 12 dissolve at this point.

Why would OU or UT leave the Big 12 at this point? If they don't leave, no one else does.
Why would Missouri and Nebraska leave the B12? It's management's responsibility to improve and secure the league, not go to the cave and ignore potential opportunities like this one with the P12. Reality is that a lot of B12/P12 games are already being scheduled in football for some reason?

Meh, I used to worry about this too but I don't anymore.

If ISU is valued at a P4 level it will be one. If not, it won't be.

By any metric ISU is a top 64 AD (if we're talking four 16 team leagues or some math that works out to that).

But if CFB is going to become NFL lite not only will we be out but a whole bunch of others will too.

It is what it is.

Yep. Let the Pac 12 dissolve and then the Big 12 has their pick if they want to add any schools at that point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that until the current GOR expires there's not much financial incentive for the conference to add any teams because it just lessens each conference member's cut of the tv money.

For one, the Big 12 was WILDLY underpaid when they left.

Mostly, they were butt hurt crybabies who realized they had lost some kind of arms race and went running from a situation they had an equal share in creating. Talking mostly about Nebraska here. Waiting for Tornado Man to come in and say they had no choice, ignore Nebraska's history of voting against revenue sharing, and blame Texas.

Then the realignment thread circle will be complete.

But the opportunity will be there when the Pac 12 folds. Nobody is riding in to save it any time soon. Why take all the teams and water down the conference when you can cherry pick the most attractive ones and leave out the rest?
Good lord, did you even read the proposal? It has zero to do with merging the leagues in part or in whole.

To be honest, I really like the idea of a Pac12 / Big 12 alliance. But that's just me.

Like the idea, don't like the conference its with. If this was successful other conferences would follow suite, I'd rather be playing against a conference with TV eyeballs already on them. We do the SEC basketball challenge already, why not an SEC/Big 12 Football challenge.

The article only talked about football right? I love the scheduling idea for the fans but it'd be tough to get AD's and coaches to agree. Even if this idea didn't fly, they could still work with the pac 12 in some capacity. I think it would be cool to see some of the conference vs conference challenges we see in bball to also take place in football. I think this is still all just talk to fill the time until the TV contracts are up. The pac 12 renegotiates a year prior to us, it'll be interesting to see how that shakes out for them. I wouldn't want to commit to anything as far as expansion or an alliance until after that. The big 12 could be in a very actionable position if things don't go well in 2024.
