The RecPlex in West Des Moines is owned and operated by the city of West Des Moines... Yes, they had some large sponsorships form HyVee and Mid American to get it going but not all of these places are private organizations and nor should they be. My generation of parent has absolutely youth sports and savvy business folks sniffed that out and they are more than willing to exploit it. The cost involved is the #1 reason the Des Moines public schools can't put together competitive teams. Roosevelt has had some but they still get buried by the well to do's.

Maybe all of the young hipsters in Des Moines should start getting married. Pop out a few kids and stay in the Des Moines School District. Kidding.

I agree about club basketball. It sucks. I was in shock when my wife and I had to fork over $30 bucks to watch her nephew's team get destroyed in in two games.

What I hate about baseball is how young th e whole club/tournament team stuff starts. At least in WDM there is zero inclusion and it starts in like 2nd grade.

Don't those club teams have like, A,B,C, D, E, and F teams? And aren't there several clubs all over the DSM Metro? Shouldn't be difficult to get your kid on a team is you pony up the cash.

I was never as confident with AJ Green as I am with Omaha. With Green, either Duke or the NBA were always reasonable possibilities. Omaha has pretty much been down to ISU or the G-league for a while, and the G-league route hasn't been that great for some guys. Add in the fact that he can probably get paid more $$ going to Iowa State than he can in the G-league.

The thing that makes me confident about Omaha is no other names have surfaced. WE have not seen the staff going after any other recruits his size and position. Normally we start seeing other names pop up when we are not going to get a kid we were after.

It'd be absolutely hilarious to see the total value of D1 scholarships given out to Iowa high school athletes in all sports vs all the $ dumb@ss Uncle Rico type parents spend specializing Timmy on one sport with ungodly hours spent because he's the next coming of Larry Bird or Cal Ripken.

No different than parents who spend 10 grand or more on a steer so their kid can get 2nd/3rd place every weekend at a cattle show. At least the family is spending time together on weekends. I don't see a huge problem as long as the kid is enjoying it and the parents are realistic about their kid's D1 prospects. What else would the kid be doing? Playing video games and living on social media?

Since Omaha is rated this high he is likely one and done. Given that NBA money is a year more likely than not and Lottery Pick money at that, why wouldn't he decide to play for one year where he wants to play? I like Iowa State's chances here.
