I agree it might not fit every scenario but it fits the vast majority. Every parent will tell you how much their kid loves playing (insert scam league intials here). If you ask the kid that in front of their dad most would probably agree. Timmy: "Yeah TripleDoucheS League is the best, right Dad?" Have that same kid's classmate ask him about it at school. The burnout is real and all the idiot parents don't realize how detrimental their actions are to the development of their kid.

It's all a scam, one of the things D1 coaches praise most when they are talking about incoming freshman is when they are multi sport athletes who are well rounded. You never any coach say, "By god I'm glad Jimmy's parents decided to turn him into a 1 sport athlete playing travel leagues by 8, because otherwise he would've never made the team".
Coaches say that, but in basketball and baseball, almost every single P5 guy like Omaha Billiew play in these clubs and don’t play other sports.

And yes FB coaches say that, but frankly track and basketball have tremendous value to football, but football has limited value to other sports. Lift and do things that help your speed and athleticism, you’ll be able to play HS football.

Don’t play AAU basketball you probably aren’t playing a major role in a larger school. Baseball you probably aren’t getting on the field much at a 4A school if you didn’t play more than little league. It doesn’t have to be stupid clubs. You can just get kids together and play in a few USSSA tournaments.

They aren't building these giant facilities for no reason. Its huge business, people in Ames laughed when they built the All Iowa Attack gym and that other private gym in west ames. And now they are both packed every weekend.

Did anyone drool though?

I think we can all agree that adults making money off of kids playing a game just feels sleazy. AAU has always felt dirty, but in this specific case, it is absolutely a necessary evil. Knowing Omaha's family and background it seems highly unlikely he would have been noticed or developed into a D1 player without year round basketball factories. He 1000% needed to leave home to have any chance of success. As much as we might cringe at 14 year old kids leaving home to stay with strangers and focus only on basketball, sometimes the alternative is worse.
He has committed all of his life to get to this point. I hope he is a one and done and lives up to all his potential regardless of where he chooses to go after high school.

My club baseball coach doesn't have any news on Omaha, mainly because he'd be in his 80s and doesn't live in Des Moines area, and doesn't follow AAU basketball.
Wait….Omaha is in his 80’s???? And we think he can be a factor in D1 ball?

I wish I was cool enough to get confirmation on info we all already know a few days before where everyone else.
It’s not so much beating you guys to the information.

It’s more being able to have actual conversation with decent human beings who aren’t ******** and derail threads that end up in the cave.

I woke up this morning thinking I would see something about Omaha committing. Ended up reading the last three pages of this, hoping to see he committed, but instead wasted my time reading a whole bunch of trash posts that were super off-topic.

Anyways, hoping for some good news soon! We would love to have this dude here in 2023!
Free will, bruh.
