Came home from Des Moines to Greenfield (Exit 86) last night on I-80 at 10 PM. Drove mostly 45 to 55. No problems.

Not Iowa but drove from Weatherford, OK to Dallas area late yesterday. Apparently, they don't have or use snow plows in southern OK!! 6 inches or more on I35 and it was just packed down on the road into an icy mess. Long trip to say the least. We left Iowa early to avoid the storm and got one anyway.

Merry Christmas (a day late)!!

Has anyone attempted to drive I-29 from Omaha to KC? I see that the interstate is now open completely, but still "covered". Does anyone know what the conditions are like?

I plan to make the trek from Ames to Indianola tomorrow, but I doubt that will help you much...if you end up going, let me know your thoughts!

Has anyone attempted Hwy 30 yet today? I'm figuring on leaving in about an hour, heading from Carroll to Ames, and eventually down to Ankeny. Any stories, good or bad, to share today? According to 511ia.org, it looks "fair" from Grand Juntion to Ames. Hoping that the rest of the area from Carroll to Grand Junction is there by 12:30...

I35 Ames to DM: Nearly dry, almost all clear. Just turned east on to I80. You should be good to go tomorrow.

Thanks for the note--figured we'd be OK. However, my sister may not make it from Omaha...but should be much better by tomorrow.

I drove from Carroll to Ankeny with no issues at all. It was mostly clear all the way and never really had to go below the speed limit. Except for a few miles north of Ankeny on 35...but that's become normal...

Am I the only one who feels like wew got the shaft in CR?

For some reason, probably the fact that I am a snowmobiler, I always am super dissappointed when we miss out on the big snow.

So, you got the shaft by not having as many people in the area miss Christmas with family? And had less likelihood of fatal crashes, because there wasn't as much snow there as you were hoping for? Bummer...

No kidding, major overreaction there. Its like saying 'im disappointed when we get rain' and someone saying "ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED THAT FARMERS GET THEIR FIELDS WATERED SO YOU CAN EAT???!?!?!!!!111"

Wow, overreact much?

Maybe I could have added a pirate. But, I get tired of everybody crying that they didn't get enough terrible weather. When over half the state, and much of the midwest is disappointed that they couldn't spend time with family, and/or had time shortened. There will be plenty of time for bad weather. We're about 20% through the winter...

I missed Christmas with my grandparents for the first time ever. Getting more than an inch or two here would have at least made it feel like there was a reason for it.

I'm with you dusting-of-snowcraig2.0. I like big snowstorms too :)

Actually wer're about half way. I always figure November through February is primary snow season.
