It started snowing lightly in Lincoln about 12:15 and has picked up a bit since. Weatherman says between 2-4 inches on our way here.

Well we'll see if 18" summer tires and snow mix well. If you see a black Mazda in the ditch tomorrow you'll know the answer.

Today is just the appetizer, look for dessert on Tuesday and Wednesday...

A STRONG AND POTENTIALLY CRIPPLING STORM IS SET TO AFFECT CENTRAL
IOWA FROM TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. SNOW WILL DEVELOP LATE MONDAY
NIGHT IN WESTERN IOWA AND OVERSPREAD CENTRAL IOWA ON TUESDAY. THE
SNOW WILL PERSIST INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY BEFORE DIMINISHING. HEAVY
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE FORECAST ACROSS ALL OF CENTRAL IOWA WITH
THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS ALONG AND SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 30 WHERE UP TO A
FOOT OF SNOW MAY BE POSSIBLE.

IN ADDITION...WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BECOME STRONG LATE TUESDAY NIGHT
AND WEDNESDAY. POTENTIAL GUSTS OF OVER 40 MPH WILL PRODUCE
WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WITH WHITEOUT CONDITIONS.
NEAR BLIZZARD TO BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY BE EXPERIENCED DURING
THIS TIME WITH VERY LOW VISIBILITIES AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT
TRAVEL CONDITIONS. PLEASE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS PRODUCT AND
OTHER FORECAST INFORMATION FOR FURTHER UPDATES AND SPECIFICS
REGARDING THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS STORM.

Yeah, Just found some discussions from the NWS on the Tuesday/Wednesday storm. Not looking like its going to be great anywhere in iowa. Here is some of the discussions.

Des Moines: The Eruo solution would produce the worst conditions in the state since the March 1st Blizzard of 2007 that affected much of western and northern Iowa.
LaCrosse: …still some uncertainties…and details will not become clear for a several more days…but if the current trends continue…headlines will likely be hoisted as early as this afternoon.
Davenport: …extreme winter storm…potentially crippling with near historic potential…high wind speeds likely would also cause significant…prolonged and widespread power outages…snow drifts of 3 to over 6 feet deep will be common by late Wednesday afternoon.

Yikes.

Some models indicate as much as a foot. Either way it's going to be interesting...

Is it sad that I'm looking forward to it?

ive always said, i hate the little 1 inchers that are just enough to be an annoyance but not enough to be fun. If its gonna snow, make it a big one.

No need to worry about that drive, they now have the fence up to keep you on the road. Well it may cause huge pile ups but atleast you wont be in the ditch.

ha, that fence is the dumbest thing ever. i would think it would be safer for cars to have a softer landing in the shallow median than for them to bounce back onto the road and collide with other cars going 50-70mph

The issue was shooting across into oncoming traffic.

Yeah, plus that type of fence will not bounce you back into the road. You hit it and slide along the edge of the ditch until you come to a stop. It's sort of a "bend but not break" fence.

Then put the stupid thing the middle of the ditch instead of the edge of the road.

Agreed. I can see the oncoming traffic... but what if the fence causes you to end up in the other ditch along the side which is much bigger dropoff.

I must be weird because I love the snow and I love driving in it. I look at it as a fun challenge. Turn off the traction control and start drifting. If you treat it like a game it makes it a lot more enjoyable.
