Enjoy it tonight guys, cuz you're headed to Lubbock for our toughest game since the Maui trip. It's incredibly difficult to win on the road and Tech just whipped a good BYU team in their own house. I'm afraid we're gonna have to play an A- or better game to come out with a win.
They also lost to USF at home. Team that lost to KU by 40+ at home

Watching hoops this year, there seems to be no kind of momentum.. Teams are all over the place in this league. And nationally. Maybe all the transfers impact consistency

Tech is very much like Iowa live and die by the 3. Both hit at 38-39%
The game could be very similar to path in Iowa City. Just gotta maintain contact if Tech gets off to hot start. If they shoot poorly ISU should win by 7-10?

Not implying Tech will not be a tough road game, but their resume is suspect.

Losses against St Joes at neutral site (97 on Ken Pom), A&M (perfectly respectable) and at home against UCF (79 on Ken Pom).

Best win before tonight in Provo was against Utah. Best non Conference win was against #110 DePaul and #125 Syracuse.

What am I missing here?
There’s always some sort of voodoo happening in Lubbock.

ISU was down 22-20 after a Gilbert 3 pt. On the ensuing possession there was a break in the action, TJ whistled and shouted, “Tamin!” to quickly connect with his star Jr guard.

Utah had gone on a 15-2 run to take the lead and ISU had been cold from the field for the last few minutes.

I’m no lip reader but by the non-verbals I inferred that TJ was telling his floor general to get the game tied up. Get to the lane, force the action.

A few seconds later Tamin sinks his first two of many fts of the night to tie the game. A few minutes later, Tamin is exiting the game after a 12 pt run and TJ drapes his arm around Linsey’s shoulder and shares some words with his star guard.

That’s the moment of the game to me.
Tamin is a junior. They grow up so fast.

Currently averaging 9.8, Tamin's big game tonight will push him over the 10-point average. I believe this will give us 6 players averaging double digits scoring!
Nice to know that if you go to sleep on Tamin, he can rise up and have a big night. He's capable at any time if he stays healthy.

Our guards are 3 of the best. Add in potential big nights from any of Milan, Jackson, Jefferson, Chatfield, and Heise (all of which had off scoring games, except Jefferson) and we can be very dangerous.

It's a round about way of saying that we have multiple players that can beat you on any given night.

pretty much sleepwalked through that one and still won by 23. Some good individual performances but overall pretty eh. Not a complaint either, hard to get up for a team as pitiful as Utah. Just can't give it the A game every night.

I'm not sure who utah could beat. The Madsen brothers are just god awful. There isn't one guy on Utah that would crack our 9 deep. Not one.

It almost pisses me off how badly they are going to drag down the conference. That Utah team couldn't finish in the top half of the Valley. Just pitiful.
Slow down there friend. As much as I currently don't like Utah, it is their first year in the Big 12 (Pac 12 notwithstanding). Go easy on them now. Who knows, they may be a thorn later. Let's not kick 'em too hard now?

We scored 82 which will get it done for this team 90% of the time Chatfield was actually 2-3 granted the other three combined for 1-9 but when you have so many guys that can go off you defer to the hot hand.

Glad you noticed that. Can't believe just last week people were saying that TJ isn't an elite coach on this page. Seeing this post shows how much his guys respect and listen to him, and how smart Otz really is. Otz will be seen as a top 10 coach easily by the end of the season by the national media.

A good win while putting forth a B type effort. Will take that any time.

Still think this team is missing something, but can't quite place what it is

Along these lines, this current version of the Big 12 is way different than the 10 team Big 12 we played in for the last 10 years of it's existence where most years it went 9 deep with good to great teams. In any given year there might be only one bottom feeder on the schedule. So we had to go round robin against that, very difficult. Even the 12 team Big 12 last year was rather difficult. This version, way different, way easier. Heck, I don't think the bottom 7 teams are very good at all. The result is our conference schedule is way easier. We caught a break against Baylor because they had injuries. For tough games we have KU twice, Zone twice (who has a terrible non con record), Tech and WVU once, and Houston once. That is only 7 tough games really. We have two quality wins in the non con, Dayton and Marquette.

I was actually wondering if Jackson was sick, he did not look good (not just his play, like he didn't look healthy/well).

May I suggest the Mikan Drill?!

Old school.

We did it kind of modified with two basketballs.

One person doing the drill and the other person rebounding and placing the ball on the floor on the opposite block.

We would go back and forth... slide stepping….Block to block. Bending down, picking up the ball from the block and going up fast and strong.

When the coach blew the whistle, we had to do it all but with a pump fake.

Everyone on the team did them. Guards, Forwards, and Centers.

Over and over and over again!

Get to it TJ! LOL
Wuss! We had to do it with leg weights and use a medicine ball.;););).

They're a bit limited athletically in speed and length and need to impose their will defensively with traps etc. to make things happen; it seems like if they play straight up teams are able to get to the lane/hoop more easily.

It all to click is mostly it, imo. Defensive rebounding needs cleaned up a bit, but I really just think this team is almost to the point of figuring out exactly how to play with each other. It’s not easy replacing your entire front court with completely different styles of players. We have seen flashes of what it can look like, but the consistency isn’t there yet.
