Way up there
This game came down to Tech being a really good match up for our best lineup. Having Lard and Young on the floor at the same time is our strongest group but from what we've seen, if the other team has a capable shooter at the 4 spot to pull Lard away from the rim, the tables turn and we are mismatched. Basically we get Hoiballed. Tech doesn't have a guy like that, so they scored 52 points.

Talley's game is the brightest spot IMO, if he plays well enough to get consistent minutes, he can help out not only defensively but he can replace the bench scoring we lost when Lard became a starter. I think that had a lot to do with the lulls we saw in the losing streak, during the winning streak we could count on Lard to come in and give some points and energy, without him and the other guys banged up, there was no boost from the bench.

Yeah, the refs were just fine in the Baylor-KU game. I was just being a ***** yesterday when I commented on them.

Hmm. Yeah so far I can't discredit KU this season. The "streak" is still fake nonsense though.

Baylor blew it, but the refs were bad down the stretch. I've never seen a program so consistently get no-calls in the paint. It never fails. Opposing guard attacks the paint. Kansas big man comes across the lane and bodies the opposing guard. Guard goes flying. No call. That only happens because the ref is watching the game from the KU perspective. The same way we see a clean block from Lard, for example, only to see the replay and see he clearly bodied the driver. We see what we want to see. Every freakin' season, their big guys get away with murder in the lane.

Same thing happened to Jackson at the Phog. It was at a critical juncture in the game. Once again, no whistle.

To the point about our PnR defense, I am sure Prohm is preaching it every day in practice, but with a bunch of newbies trying to defend it, it's going to look ugly for awhile. In the Tech game, they didn't have to defend that much at all, and you see our defense has the ability to be a good one.

PnR defense is not an easy thing to defend, and requires a ton of communication, trust and cohesion, which right now we just don't have. It will definitely get better, and I have a feeling we will be a pretty good defensive team next year.

A couple of things about yesterday that stood out:

1. Texas Tech made several runs. The biggest one was obviously right after halftime, but we were up 10 early in the game and there were a couple of other times they cut into a lead. And we always answered. It was very, very impressive.

2. Everyone on the team was giving great effort all day. We beat Texas Tech to almost every 50/50 ball. And that kind of effort was something I haven't seen in a long, long time.

I just hope we don't have to watch UT's Osteiowitch (whatever his name is) go off for a career high in 3's again. We'll see if we got better at PnR defense.

That was a fluke. Lumberjack Boy couldn't go 7-13 again from three in a game of horse. In other league games he is 6 for 25.

I believe you meant to say the refs were reffing in Lawrence.

It was on Baylor. They had a great come back, got up 6 with 2 minutes left, and had several bad/hurried possessions and decided not to play defense while KU went full layup drill.

Just realized when getting things around for tomorrow's gameday thread that the TTU game thread had unbalanced *'s 2 left 3 right. It was totally an accident because I copy the prior gameday thread title for the next one I just forgot to highlight the third left *. Now should I continue the unbalanced look as we are 1-0 with it?

Damn right, go unbalanced!

Or, no, wait! Does that only work for home games and you should save it for midnight on Friday? Damn, this is making Hulks brain hurt!

Also it was 2 vs 3 with us on the side closest to the 3 being we were at home so for road games do I make 3 left and 2 right? :)
