Before the Waukee teams split and they beat Tamin his Jr year I think in the title game they had Billiew, Devries, the Sandfort bros and Kelderman. It was quite a team.
That actually is a really good team.

I feel with NIL and the transfer portal, the high seed upsets will be less and less
Have to disagree to an extent. The transfer portal also helps smaller schools in mid-major type conferences.

There are so many good players available in the portal, and they all can't wind up at P-5 schools. Bryant for one has portal guys from name schools and many other smaller schools in the Tourney this year are getting talented guys from name schools in the portal as well.

There's more parity in all of college hoops now. In any given year, it may or may not translate to upsets in the Tourney. But to me, it seems the smaller schools I'm watching play have definitely much better overall talent than in NCAA Tourneys past.

100%. All of the mid majors are getting their rosters picked over. They don’t really have a chance to build a good experienced roster because when the high majors see they have a good player, they snatch him up.

I thought Kelderman was a spot up jump shooter. I guess I was wrong. He can dribble, pass, and drive to the basket.
I only saw him play at state, but that Jr season before the Waukee split they ran their offense through Devries with Kelderman and the Sandforts hitting 3s and Billiew cutting and dunking.
After they split I think he was definitely the primary PG, but I think they got beat in the first round.
He was definitely a very good HS player, but to be honest there were quite a few players that stood out above him.

But this shows the incredible value of a guy that can handle the ball and hit shots. The biggest way to make your defense worse is to turn the ball over

Kelderman intrigue here. As a walkon, does he get the same practice time as the rest of the team? Summer practice? Work outs? Just curious if there is any disparity. At the least, he would be spending more time studying, since that is his main goal right?

Everything is the same as a scholarship athlete except he isn't getting financial aid for school. Any team activities are all equal including access to study tutors if necessary. On the team means on the team

On the macro level the open transfer portal ensures the talent level will be on the court where it should be, mid majors should actually have more talent in their starting 5 if players move to where they can get minutes on the court. There will always be more depth at the P5 level, but when has that not been true?

Just goes to show the talent level that you need to compete at this level. You can be a top 1% player and not have enough. I'd love nothing more than to see him as a rotation player before he's done. That would be like the fulfillment of a personal dream from when I was a kid.
Gonna be hard at his size but would be fun.

The only thing is forcing a kid to sit out a year probably kept a lot of kids from transferring. Once that changed then I would tend to agree

For all the haters, doubters, heightists, anti-walk ons, I hope Cade does something thats puts him into legendary Cyclone lore that exceeds Jeff Woody, and you have to replay it in your mind every year in March to remind you that you were on the wrong side of history.
Cade is playing because he is better than anyone in the bench including 4 star recruit. Many people here assume he is not good because he is a walk on.

Only in a capped compensation environment

Imo, uncapped player compensation will lead to ever changing hierarchy, more than it will lead to parity. A lot of chalk in March

If parity is defined as a decrease in talent at schools in which prestige was primarily built on antiquated advantages, like history from last century, location, and even conference affiliation…then yes. Granted, I think that is how most define it

So the more it moves to a perfect market, uncapped spending with complete player mobility (annual free agency), the more it favors those will the ability to pay

And most of biggest brands are the ones with the most ability to pay. But nothing is more exclusive than the moats of history, brand prestige, location.

But now anyone that has one billionaire willing to fund at the top level, and not mean a school that’s been a high major because it joined the right conference 100 years ago

Imo this is why the P2 and biggest legacy brands will benefit from the change to revenue sharing and FMV NIL. It locks in and monetizes the old moats

I don't think anyone assumes he's not good. There's a reason the NBA drafts tall people. If I were 6'4'' instead of 5'11" I could have played college sports. It's just reality.

Kelderman has just been solid which is all that's likely needed.

Beard's a POS but knows ball and will make it a point to go after him on both ends to make things harder for Lipsey.

He clearly is not a pro prospect but he still can be a solid college player like the two short white guards that played for Oklahoma State.
