One of the things that jumped out to me was the looks the Cyclones were getting, especially in the first half. The ball movement and crisp passing lead to a lot of really good looks. Unfortunately, we weren't knocking very many of those shots down. But in spite of not shooting well, we still scored more than TT normally allowed. We still caused turnovers, and we rebounded well, and found a way to win, on the road, against a top 10 team.

I'll also admit that when TT tied the game, I was sure it was going to slip away, but the team showed some toughness that I thought was missing last Saturday. Good win!

It may have helped that we just got a good long look at a good defensive team in K State, and the lessons were fresh in their minds. Main thing I saw last night that I didn't see last Saturday was decisiveness. They weren't pausing that 1/4 second that allows the defense to get back in position.

Shayok is a tough case at the end of close games like that. He’s the guy I want shooting free throws, but not the guy I want facing traps and pressure.

Yeah, said it last week--love the energy and effort but he's got just a bit of that Nader in him where once he gets going who knows where he's going.

Conditt got beat a few times last night and likely got lost a few times but did some nice things toward the end...he got thrown to the fire a bit but going up against Wade and Culver are really good learning opportunities and imo he pushed back against the challenge last night.

I rolled my eyes so hard when TTU tied it up. I thought we were a goner.

Here is the next game minute after Culver tied the game 61-61, though...

upload_2019-1-17_10-29-45.png

-- Nick just drilled that elbow jumper in rhythm that he likes so much
-- definitely a "OH NO BAD SHOT OH YEAH HE MADE IT!"
-- Mike blocked Culver's next attempt
-- grab the ball, go on the fast break to Haliburton
-- Haliburton sets up Wigginton, who has a ridiculously athletic finish at the rim
-- Owens misses a free throw that would have made it a 2-point game
-- another Culver shot, scrum under the rim
-- Nick rips it away from two Tech guys, dribbles it out
-- Nick and the guards avoid the trap, get it across mid-court, and into Marial's hands
-- Tech starts fouling

There are a half-dozen big plays there by our guys -- making shots, blocking shots, securing rebounds, and turning on the jets to go the other way on the break.

Marial also made 3/4 from the line in the last half-minute of the game, which was enough to keep the margin +4 at the final possession. Good enough for me.

That was closing out a tough game on the road.

I was suprised Tech called that 1:49 TO. They had a lot of momentum.

Particularly when it wasn't the result of hitting a lot of wild shots. We found the openings in the defense repeatedly, and if we had been hot, it would have been a much bigger lead.

Another thing prohm said on the post game, of the 22-23 3’s we took, he thought 18 were looks he wanted.

At some point when you’re open, you have to make the shot. But that team out toughed tech last night. Tech is the toughest team in the league.

I thought Jacobson played his best game in conference. Played tough.
Wigginton's best game since being back. Even though some shots didn't go down he did lots of other things well and didn't force much. I thought 2-3 of his drives he looked like he got fouled and it wasn't called.
Shayok was great.
Conditt played good minutes again.
Horton Tucker did a great job on the boards.

Oh and Culver is freaking good.
Like that Edwards kid that ISU recruited as well.

Culver was 7-21 last night. A very underrated job by nick on him.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but loved the reaction from the guys after the big win. Wasn't a ton of crazy celebrating it was more like yeah we got the win and we expected to get the win.

FT defense was top notch though.

We played well, yet with plenty of room for improvement. Culver had a pretty average game for them. Beard is doing a great job. KSU is more talented, and maybe even Baylor with Clark.
Speaking of free throw defense... there was a free throw attempt last night, I think THT was shooting, where Mike Jake was standing on the block moving around, talking to Prohm, waving his arms. Like dude stand still and shut up, you're providing even more distraction on top of the Tech fans already chanting air ball. THT then clanks them both.

At that level, there are always going to be a ton of distractions. I doubt that had anything to do with the misses.

Hate to bring them into this but caught the end of the TOE's game and a couple of guys did a jumping chest bump after toughing it out at Pedo U. Any road win is good, so whatever but thought it was funny.

Johnny coached a decent number of top 25 wins at home, but I'm not sure I remember a road win vs. a ranked team, let alone top 10 --- it may have happened, but I'm drawing a blank.
Johnny Orr's teams really struggled on the road. I think one year they had a 9-5 record in conference, and that was their best.

To be fair, though, that five seconds was barely 4 seconds. I timed it on replay. Plus NWB released the ball before the ref had extended his arm out for the 5th second. That was plain and simple a ref WANTING to make a call.
You are correct, sir! I timed it on replay too.

But he made them!

What else did you really like about the win?

Do you think ISU will win another game or are you giving up again?
Before the season started I felt this team would be one of the 3 best B12 teams. Opinion hasn't changed even after the losses. What were your expectations?

Didn't give up on the season, that's what you and other posters inferred since I said something that was slightly negative. I used hyperbole in my poor attempt at humor but the main point of my post is honest. That streaming pile the team laid on the court VS KSU killed my excitement. This win against TTU was great but can't overcome that stinker by itself. Now if they beat OSU and Ole miss I'll prob get warm and fuzzy feelings again. Right or wrong that's how I feel.
