Not wrong, but TJ has done extremely well at retaining talent here. Outside of losing Hunter after TJ’s first year, we haven’t lost anyone to the portal that we weren’t already pushing out.

(Knock on wood)
I don't think we were pushing Dishon out, though I also don't think we were going to spend a lot extra to keep him if I had to guess.

Yeah we may not have been pushing him out but we were looking to upgrade that position.

See, that’s the thing. Either he’s good enough to play as a true frosh (and I think he is), or, like Nojus, he’s off to greener pastures.

And if he’s good enough to play with these guys, that’s significant.

I think he’s in the top three interior rotation, Jefferson-Buchanan-Pleta, then Mulser.

Mostly for Jefferson, but I think the two can do rude things to opponents on the floor together.
I could be wrong, but people should pump the brakes on Pleta, I think.

He did put up good numbers, but most of those good numbers were within the “Pro B” German circuit, I believe. Pro B is the German 3rd tier league.

Florida Atlantic just got a commitment from a 7 footer who averaged 8 and 6 in the German 2nd tier league, and everything I’ve seen is that he is an intriguing get for them, but widely considered to be a “depth piece” for Florida Atlantic.

Pleta’s numbers were better than 8 and 6 (believe he as around 20/21 and 8) but in a lower league.

On a potentially related note, I’ve heard Spain is shutting down its lower level development leagues, and Germany may as well. The kids in those leagues can make more money at US colleges/universities now than they could in those leagues. Will likely see an influx of those development types coming to the US than previously, which lowers the demand for those leagues in Europe.

I think the staff liked Dishon but saw the limitations in his ability to move and play defense ouside the paint. Still they would have him as the starting center at last years NIL price. Dishon is a starting center and for a team playing in a post up system was getting larger offers the staff wasn't comfortable paying. I do think they were close to getting Cluff and decided they were comfortable offering that NIL for him but not DJ once the choice was made they went all in.

It may work out for all parties, Buchannon and his style of play and fluid movement for a center is more like the Ward or Osun who had a lot of success in ISU defensive system at a rumored NIL cost less than what Dishon is getting at PITT.

My enthusiasm for Pleta isn’t based on “numbers”.

And I never get why people say that others should “pump the brakes”.

It’s my opinion, has nothing to do with whatever reality will eventually play out, and I’m a big boy who can handle it if I’m wrong.

It’s not like I’m heavily invested in being right or wrong. Or just stuck a pile of money on FanDuel on him averaging 20 and 10 as a frosh.

That would be on the football team beating ten wins this fall (just kidding).

I wasn’t singling you out. Just used your post as it was the last one I saw in a quote to quote conversation about Pleta.

Apologies if you took it that way. That wasn’t my intent.

Not a problem. Similarly I also wasn’t responding specifically to you, just in general.

And there’s a chance I haven’t had my coffee yet, and am a bit grumpy.

Off for a mug.

I think it was explained by Blum on a podcast that his value on the open market was more than we wanted to pay. I think his hands were the deterrent to going after him hard like we did with Jefferson
