Grill has his shortcomings, but he isn't on this roster because of his handle. His minutes are almost entirely contingent on him draining jump shots. He was just OK last year, mainly because his shot was inconsistent.
I doubt Caleb ever starts, but if he can bump up from 34.8% to 38%+ from 3, then he will play 15-20mpg most nights. It isn't that big of a bump- last year he shot 57-164. If he makes 9 more 3's over the 35 game season he would have been a 40% shooter from 3 last year.
Consistency is key for Caleb.
In games after the Big12 season started:
- In the 8 games he shot >= 33% from three he was 25-46 (54.3%).
- In the 15 games he shot < 33% from three, he shot 9-68 (13.2%).
Another way to look at the same period after the start of Big12 play:
- In 8 games Caleb made 2+ from three he was 27-61 (44.3%)
- In 15 games Caleb made 0 or 1 three points shots, he was 7-53 (13.2%)
It would seem like a confident shooting Caleb is the key!!
