If you go back not that far, there was lots of "he sucks" too. Grill really following the Matty Ice fan love trajectory...
I remember shortly before the North Carolina game, he was getting quite a bit of criticism from certain posters. For some reason most of them didn't have much to say after UNC...

Mizzou has a nice team, but getting drilled on the road there is a bad sign for a team needing multiple road wins against higher caliber teams to win a championship.

Listened to Williams and Blum take a victory lap over some sports book saying ISU has second best odds to win the championship this morning like that matters at all. Who cares? Glad to hear their spot on some spreadsheet someplace didn't change that much though.

I'd love to see ISU win a championship, regardless of the odds. Been a long time. They're going to have to go on the road and do it though.
Not sure I would call it a victory lap, but thought it was interesting it's not just us who think Iowa State still has a chance to win the Big 12 and it's almost February. Obviously, going to need to win more road games and hold serve at home, but the point I was trying to make (albeit poorly) was Saturday didn't really change my perspective of this team's chances in the conference. Tonight will.

Had a thread about it being ok to lose to Missouri and see how that worked out. Let's not make this the same.
I don't think the thread impacted the game in any way. If some on this thread are worried, same result, no impact.

However, my lucky Cyclone shirt is in the laundry! Put your life savings on TTech!

(I believe the Clones make FTs late and win by 7.)

I think they have the ability to win it as well. My point was the opportunity cost of a couple close road losses earlier is steep when considering they need several more to get across the finish line. And a stinker on the road in Columbia may not factor into whether it not they get a conference championship but it is another data point about the kind of game they need to win to get there. They need to win tonight if they are going to contend, I don't think anyone really disputes that.

I don't know who would fit this bill but Georges was well liked from the word 'go' and Caleb was in the 'why is he even playing?' column along with Gabe for plenty of people before Portland.
There has always been a vocal group of Cyclone fans on here (led by CW) that sang his praises long before he ever did anything of significance on the court. Now that he's actually good, those early investors are reaping a nice pay day. But for the longest time, the praise was kind of nauseating. The people in the "why is he even playing" crowd were in the minority and were right basically until this season.

The answer to 'why is he even playing' before this season was because he was needed in order for the team to operate just like Gabe and you had to take the bad with the good.

I never heard anyone ever come up with a replacement for Gabe or Caleb in all of that weirdness. When asked 'who should play in his place' it's met with 'anyone!' like there were just a plethora of guards coming off the bench or several ISU players could just go the distance with ISU's style.

Hey, Walker and Jackson were right there and were surely Big 12 capable players right?

I figure to win a title we need to win three more games on the road while holding serve at home. We missed two of those opportunities already by a total of 4 points or something. I don't know how you get them if you don't go into places like Lubbock and get them when they are winless.

Must win.
3 more would put you at 14-4. I don’t see anyone finishing at 14-4. I honestly think 12-6 gets you a share this year.

I understand the excitement of being in the hunt for a conference title. However, it’s difficult for me to spend a lot of time considering a championship when over half of the team’s conference games remain.

Yes.

It's a little alarming how cavalier people have been about the close road losses and bombing badly against Mizzou. Do you want to win a conference championship for the first time in 20 years or don't ya? It's right. *******. There. Go get it, rather than telling me how x loss or y blowing doesn't really hurt.

Go get it.
You really don't understand just how tough it is to win on the road in the Big 12.

I just hate that they are winless in conference. It sucks playing against desperation and a hungry team on the road. That's usually not a recipe for success. We will have to play our A game to win.

You take that shirt out of the laundry, Febreze it heavily, and put it back on right now!
