Way up there
Today was a Talley game. I feel Conditt will be needed Saturday.

Wouldn't be shocked in Conditt had an impact but I think Talley matches up really well with UT. Last year, they were able to expose our bigs with the pick and pop with Osetkowski, Talley could be good in that situation. I think either way, they try to exploit Osetkowski, either by pulling a big away from the hoop or by posting on a THT. Talley is a good counter for either of those strategies.

This game worries me. Texas' record looks awful and they've lost to some really crappy teams. But they also have wins over North Carolina, Purdue, Kansas, and Kansas State. Those are all massively impressive wins.

I think we pull it out but just barely.

If ISU is truly Big 12 champion material they need to win this by double digits.

Texas has a tall front court, but their freshman big man and George C, clearly are dining at the same training table of, low carb, low calorie food. :)

Osetkowsky is a pretty good passer so I hope the game plan is to make him take shots. Don’t want us to double team him and leave them open for 3. I don’t know what Texas is shooting from 3 as a team but I have this feeling we will play percentages and leave them open while focusing on Hayes and Osetkowsky.

Iowa State 79
Texas 72

I too hope the game plan isn't to double Osetkowsky and leave their average shooters with WIDE OPEN 3 chances.

Te$as has made 9, 12, and 10 threes the last three games

I don't think I'd characterize Jacobson as being in a slump by any means. He's playing well defensively and does so much for us with his ability to switch and hard hedge screens. With Wiggy, Lard and THT playing better someone was going to get loss shots and less points. I know he was O-for last night, but I certainly wouldn't characterize him as being in a slump.

Not only defense, but he's rebounding like crazy. If we don't have him in, someone else needs to step up a lot. He had 8 rebounds against WVU.

Texas -- 67
Iowa State -- 75

Stays close until the end, Shayok or Wigginton hit a few shots, stretch out the margin when Texas goes desperate into the press or fouling and we hit our FTs.

Shayok does this to the whole Big 12 during the game...

Hays’ defense is going to be a factor. Jacobson needs to body off Hays from impacting our drives as much as possible, and definitely not let Hays be an impact on offense by leaving him open when helping on Ostekowski.

I’d rather have Jacobson on Ostekowski. MJ should be able to stay with him. Hays gets most of his offense on easy buckets and above the rim.

Hopefully Lard, Conditt, and Talley are ready to go.

MJ, who is already in a slump, could be a huge liability if Texas succeeds in that.

Scoring slump, I guess I should say.

It's a bit unfair to say MJ is in a scoring slump. He normally gets his points in the flow of the game (putbacks, back-door cuts, maybe an occasional 3 and that sweet-looking mid-range shot of his). With the other options we have, he isn't expected to be a primary scorer. If our guards are flying around, passing and scoring like they are capable of, I'm ok with MJ scoring less. More importantly, he seems ok with it too.

Others have mentioned the intangibles he does to justify his being on the court. I'll add two underrated things of my own:

- he seems to be able to find a way to get a bucket when it's not falling for anyone else
- he does a solid job screening off his player and providing an open lane to the basket for someone else

Jaxson Hayes is an athletic rim protector like Iowa St hasn't seen this season. If he's not blocking shots, then he's greatly altering what you want to do in the paint. KU was rattled with their inability to finish around the rim. Hopefully Iowa St's great passing continues, and they're able to find the open guy when Hayes comes on help defense.

You must not remember him lighting us from 3

We have to get more playing time for everybody. Then I think we'll be in good shape.

All they need to do is win this one by 1. And the next one, and the next one, etc

I think that Jacobsen and Lard need to hit a couple of baseline mid-range jumpers to keep Hayes honest.

By the way, it makes me sooo happy to see an Iowa State team that is willing and able to shoot open mid range jump shots as opposed to forcing the ball into traffic at the rim or refusing to step inside the three point line to begin with. Jacobsen, Lard, Shayok, THT and Babb have all been deadly from the 10-16 foot range. That puts so much more pressure on the defense when they have to defend everything from 22 feet on in to the rim.

Nick seems to have a /run mid-range-CP3-elbow-jumper.exe program in him.
