There's a special place in hell for Ankeny infrastructure.
i mean... it feels like hell driving in that mess. i have never seen a road closure like this one and feel bad for the businesses that line the road.
I would rather drive through downtown Chicago during Friday rush hour with a semi full of nuclear waste than drive through Ankeny.
it really isnt that bad. dont go near delaware and oralabor in the afternoon. everywhere else is great.
GTFO. what? they must be tearing up all the intersections individually once the main road is replaced.
Lane Closures Begin April 15 on North Ankeny Boulevard
Beginning at 5 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, traffic on North Ankeny Boulevard will shift to head-to-head traffic in the northbound lanes between First Street and NE 11th Street. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction. This change allows crews to reconstruct the southbound lanes and replace the concrete pavement. Right-turn lanes will also be added at Fifth, Ninth and 11th streets. Work on the southbound lanes is expected to be completed by August 2025, weather permitting.
In phase two, traffic will shift to the southbound lanes while crews replace pavement in the northbound lanes from First Street to NE Fifth Street. One lane in each direction will remain open throughout construction. The northbound lanes are expected to be completed by December 2025, weather permitting.
This is a joint project between the City of Ankeny and the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT). In addition to the pavement reconstruction, the project also includes new traffic signals, sidewalks, medians, and landscaping.

I lived on the east coast where traffic was a GD nightmare and nothing will raise my blood pressure like trying to get in and out of the Prairie Ridge Sports complex on the softball/Soccer side. What a total f*cking clown show and the city of Ankeny refuses to put in a stop light on the corner of Ash and 9th.

As a NW Ankeny resident I don't agree with that. The roads can get pretty backed up and congested at certain spots in the northern part of town. The intersection of Irvindale and 18th can get especially bad. They are redoing that this summer too, which is needed, but that is going to be a huge pain in the ass to drive around all summer.
that is further than i typically venture west into ankeny, but i know the intersection you are talking about. that whole area needs an infrastructure update.
You're in luck then, because that intersection is in the capital improvement plan to get redone.
Or perhaps you're not in luck because in typical Ankeny fashion it's being done 10 years too late and by the time it happens your kids will have aged out of playing sports at Prairie Ridge.
I can drive from Ames to Des Moines faster than I can drive from East to West Ankeny. It's incredible.
That pavement has been falling apart for years!! The IDOT has applied band-aids by trying to patch it, but the joints are falling apart.
Just out of curiosity, how do you propose they construct this? Do you want them to flat out close the road and construct it quicker? I don't think that's what the businesses would want. They are providing right-in, right-out access at strategic locations, most of the businesses are connected with internal circulation to 5th and/or 9th.
The project is needed and long overdue. Oh, and wait until they start on the segment to the south between 1st Street and Peterson Drive. Those businesses do not have the luxury of alternate access points.
