When I heard Ferentz say specialist I interpreted it as he is a good receiver but less than stellar at pass protection and run blocking. He was contrasting him to his other TE that is doing both of those things and still making big catches in the passing game. I guess I don't see the issue. If a guy can't do what you need and another guy can the guy who is doing it all is going to get snaps and the other guy is going to get the scraps.

Kudos to Kirk for not going all Fran on the reporters who are asking him about it.

It's not a play in game!

Being more stable than Mad Fran is not exactly a resume builder.

Not exactly sure.
My wife's family has a few tavernhawks in it. One has their son going to Iowa. Kid was home for the weekend and was telling us that his roommate helps with the equipment. He was getting in trouble because his job was to take care of the balls, make sure they are right pressure and they are where they are needed. He was always short. They thought he was actually stealing the footballs.

They went to a practice tape and found out he was not stealing them. Apparently Nate Stanley thought they looked like beef jerky and would accidentally eat one every so often. Now they require him to wear a helmet at all times while at practice so they can stop losing balls.

Oh, don't feel bad for him. A friend of mine saw him at the club last Friday and it looked like he was having a whale of a time.
With the weight of this situation, I don't think Nate Stanley would think his plate is ever full enough.

I think Barta should send letters to all of their opponents about this.

Not a hard thing to decipher for me. Sounds like Fant has moved on, and Kirk has done so in return. They have a fine replacement in Hockenson. I've heard rumblings well before this that the kid has an attitude issue.

Also, did he engage in the huge Iowa "no-no" of visiting somewhere after he committed? I seem to remember him visiting Nebraska after he gave his verbal. I imagine that didn't set the tone very well.

I was watching this live with a few Iowa fans of mine. Made me so happy

The funny thing about that play is that Hockenson should have been flagged for offensive pass interference. He literally makes contact with #7 while the ball was in the air taking him out of the play.

Wow. I bet I have seen that play a half dozen times and hadn't noticed what Fant did. Not sure that I agree that it is on Stanley. It is a timing play and Fant was supposed to run a short slant

You don't try to call an audible with five seconds left on the clock on the road in Happy Valley. Stanley should have called a timeout or just ran the play they had called. There wasn't enough time to change the play without it being hectic. It was 1st and goal, either call a timeout, run the play they had called or throw it away.

Unless Stanley had his eye closed until he threw it he would have known the timing was completely off. He panicked and hoped he'd turn around by the time the ball got there.

Call a timeout, throw the ball away, even taking a sack there is better than throwing into a broken play.

At least you have Stanley for all of next year too!

I don't understand how it wasn't a false start. Seemed like at least three guys were still moving when the ball was snapped.
I think it is because that video seems to be faster than actual time. It would have been far better as a false start versus the int.

Stanley said yesterday that defenses are keying on Fant and taking him out of the game which is opening up more opportunities for guys like Hockenson.

Ferentz is such a genius that he's one step ahead of the defense. Take your best player off the field and the defense doesnt have a chance to contain him. Brilliant!!!
