This paper had some backhanded slaps at ISU in the days leading up to the Pinstripe bowl hoping they'd get A&M or Mizzou instead. Now that we're picked, this came out today. They're assuming that ISU has no fanbase, nobody will come to support ISU, and the ISU name on the jersey isn't a draw for Rutgers fans to come out for.
I understand their concerns, but how about they see who shows up before dissing ISU.
RU Football: More to LOSE than Gain in Pinstripe Bowl | NJ.com
Rutgers versus Iowa State is announced. You say, "What round of the women's NCAA tournament are we in?" No...not the Women's NCAA...the Pinstripe Bowl.
The problem with this is Iowa State coming to NYC does not add a huge opinion from Rutgers fans that this is a must see. The fans will have to brave the weather, which hopefully will be unseasonably warm, to go see a Rutgers team that ended the season without any form of punch. Likewise, Iowa State ended their last two games with two losses as well, though against much better competition than Rutgers. Still, both ended the season with a down note rather than a positive one and the only selling point behind Iowa State was their upset of Oklahoma State which removed OSU from the National Championship.
With that, the biggest number that matters, the attendance figures, will have to be high on the Rutgers side because I'd think Iowa State wouldn't be traveling in the 15,000 range the weekend of New Year's. Rutgers will NEED to sell out and bring in a TON of extra fans to justify to other bowls that they deserve the bowl opportunities. They must fill the stadium to show the Big East and New York community that it's worth it for them to have Rutgers at future Pinstripe bowls rather than taking Pitt, Syracuse, UConn or other local teams.
We will need to have about 30,000 fans at the bowl in order to guarantee hitting the Syracuse figure from last year (38,274).

What do you guys think? The author is assuming that neutral New York fans + ISU fans will be less than 8,000 people. Does ISU bring 5,000 or less to the game?
