NIL and the Portal

My hope is that the top players are burning through most of school's NIL money. So there will be talented role players who may be available late. I would be happy if we could find a 4 who excels at rebounding & defense. If they are a 6-8ppg scorer, I'd be happy.
100% agree - also, we can't see who is in the transfer portal - we can only read what ESPN, CBS, On3, etc. tell us.

I believe many here would agree our best portal acquisition was entirely unexpected, Hannah Belanger from Division II Truman State. For all we know, there could be a 6'1 "double-double machine" from South Dakota School of Mines who simply wants to prove she was over-looked and can compete at the D1 Level. We just need to find her.

My well-informed source says 90% of our NCAA revenue sharing WBB allotment went to Brown, Crooks & Jada Williams. That leaves We Will to "pay" the remainder of the team and any new recruits. We don't have a "bag" to lure Serah Williams from Wisconsin, so we play the waiting game as the portal sorts out.

Correct and correct. There is no time limit for players already in the portal to determine where they will go.

In the 2023-2024 season one Big 12 team even added a portal player for the 2nd semester. Can't remember the school but think the player had been at Kansas and nobody signed her before the season.

We’ve had a few. I’m not sure how you differentiate “transfer” from “portal.” The portal started in 2018 so transfers in who made a significant impact included players like Diew, Nez, and Jordao. Soares technically could count, but coming from NAIA it wasnt a portal thing per se but was a transfer.

Nez was a juco (Jacksonville College in Texas), so she also doesn't really count.

Probably our best non-juco transfer since the mid-aughts was just outside that 2018 time period -- Alexa Middleton in 2017.

Yes, she was awesome for us. Loved her energy!

I guess there’s no better place for this than here since it’s impacted by the portal. The way, Way, way, way too early bracket for 2026 is out. Creme has Iowa State and Baylor as four seeds, TCU as a 7 and WVU as an 8. Colorado a 10 and OSU a 6. Iowa a 5. #1s are no surprise. South Carolina, Texas, UConn, and UCLA.
